Remember Mom’s First Post? Well, Yesterday, the 21st, Mom showed me an article posted in AlQabas’ newspaper by A Kuwaiti writer (won’t mention her name). The article was a bit too similar to Mom’s post. Actually, it looked as if the writer was reading our brains! Either that or she read our blog. πŸ˜›

Alqabas’ Article

Mom’s Article

“It was no easy duty to go and condole a woman on her loss, It wasn’t easy for other relatives to see a member of their family suffer and go through those horrible days. It was a simple gathering where everything revolved around the family and their grief. it was simple yet very heavy, intense and somber experience. Therefor not everybody was allowed to go, only the eldest of the family would go and represent the rest and do the necessary (wajib).”

Again Alqabas’ Article

Mom’s

“Even little girls are brought to the 3azas. With their hair on their shoulders, Their little plated jewelry and their dazed eyes. The grownups haven’t spared us either, they attend wearing their topnotch abayas, filled with swarovski crystals and what not. Abayas suitable for weddings rather than 3azas!Some even went as far as wearing makeup. The new type of makeup, the β€œSad occasions” makeups.”

Coincidence? Or plagiarism? Either way, I’m glad she agrees with Mom. πŸ˜›

No Responses to “Coincidence? Or Plagiarism?”

  1. Ahmad says:

I think the timing of the Alqabas article coupled with the use of similar expressions makes me think the author definitely was either inspired by your article, or just copied it with changing some words.

  2. Kha says:

Definitely plagiarism. The similarities are too much of a coincidence.

I say complain to the newspapers. That will draw traffic to your blog!

  3. Angelo says:

That is a plagiarism ashkarah. You can argue that the author was inspired from your mother’s post but she seriously failed to hide it very well. I smell a lawsuit πŸ˜€

  4. Yousef says:

Ahmad yeah I agree. I think she read the post and thought she should introduce this issue to a wider audience. but a credit would’ve been nice.

Organic Kuwait I second that hmmm πŸ˜›

Kha I don’t think i’ll complain. Mom told me not to mention this in my blog in any harmful way, so i really doubt she’d let me complain πŸ˜›

Angeloa lawsuit! lol oh no no! kilna 3yal grayah o kilmin i3arf akhayya πŸ˜›

First, tell your Mom that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I am so glad you blogged about it – it gets attention. Whoever lifted your Mom’s content should be squirming with embarrassment. I would write to her editor and to the owner of the paper. She should be ashamed.

  7. pumkinah says:

well in my opinion she already gave ur mom a credit ! coz a writer in a well known news paper runs out of subjects and grab not only the subject but also the exact same words ! it means ur mom is better than those news papers writers! and should be happy and write more in the blog ! we will all suport her and if this incidence repeated again i will sew the writer πŸ˜›

  8. Yousef says:

intlxpatr I told mom about your comment and she said “thats a very nice saying!” she feels flattered with the response. lol we can’t complain coz in Kuwait everyone knows everyone, and Mom knows the woman and if i understood correctly, she’s kind of a distant relative lol πŸ˜›

pumkinah LOL @ yama7asin isodaf! πŸ˜› o la i meant “credit” as in she should have mentioned that she took the article from our website. she should’ve mentioned our blog in her article. bs lol thanks for the support! we appreciate it πŸ˜€

  9. intlxpatr says:

*dying laughing* I have a cousin like that! How funny – so it’s all in the family! What a blessing; your Mom has a great sense of humor about it.

  10. EniGma says:

πŸ™‚ ok what your mother wrote, i think most women who frequent 3azas have noticed that, and it’s been brought up several times during conversations (how girls are wearing 3aza makeup, oo jewelry etc). So the topic itself it no coincidence, but the style is quite similar..
