Here’s a really great image looking back at the royal roots of the three Nintendo big boys; Mario, Link and Donkey Kong. There isn’t any monochrome character love from the old days proper, but it is quite an extensive time line nonetheless, which culminates in the modern day incarnations of our beloved superheroes. Things we have learnt from the image include the fact Link has been know to walk about without his hat and Mario hasn’t always had enough pixels for a well defined mustache. 😛

My thanks goes to Ahmad & INM

There’s something odd with this one.

First of all, in Mario’s final evolution, they used the Super Smash Brawl model instead of Super Mario Galaxy model. In my opinion, the latter is better since it depicts Mario’s looks in his own true game.

Second, In Link’s 6th evolution, They used Adult Link from Ocarina of Time. That doesn’t make any sense since Link’s 5th evolution is Link’s 6th evolution despite both characters being at different ages in the same game. It would be more accurate to show the cel-shaded Link from Wind Waker.

And finally, I would switch the position of the 5th evolution of Donkey Kong with it’s 6th illustration. The 5th evolution shows his Smash Bros. Melee model (released in 2001) and the 6th evolution shows his Donkey Kong Country model (released in 1994). Thus, to make it chronologically accurate, they need to be switched.

Phwww, I hope I did make sense with all my babbling 🙂
