The elections period is finally over and I just want to say Congrats to those who lost and hard luck for those who won in this parliamentary election, and With that being said, and everything going back to normal (hopefully) in Kuwait, what is there to talk or write about other than a good old restaurant review 😀

Shabestan In Crown Plaza hotel is the restaurant for me whenever I’m in a mood for a nice iranian meal.

The restaurant is never too busy and you can always go there without prior reservation. The atmosphere is very warm, real and authentic (if you can overlook the multinational staff), I like that the place has many little seating areas, giving it a cozy feel. One of the things that first caught my attention was their attention to details in everything from the furniture, the paintings on the wall, the carpets.. down to their chinaware.

The food. Now the food obviously is whats keeping me loyal and coming back this restaurant. Surprisingly I’m not a big fan of traditional iranian food. Kebabs, Humus and iranian bread are not among the things I like to eat when I’m in a restaurant, But I go there for their Halim Bathenjan (a puree of aubergine, lamb, fried onion strips and traditional kashk) for starters & my favorite Baghalah Polo-Ba-Mahicheh (leg of lamb cooked in its own juices over a slow fire for hours and seasoned with spices and broad beans with my choice of rice) for the main course. The only thing I wish they’d work on is there stews. I love me some Ghormeh Sabzi, but theirs are not really special. Other than that, there food is to die for.

The staff is friendly and very efficient. when you first sit there, they offer complimentary Iranian greens with salty white cheese and freshly baked iranian bread (baked infront of you).

The restaurant, in my opinion, is one of the most consistent restaurants I’ve been to, which is a great quality in a restaurant if you ask me. I never go there more than once a month, and when I’m there, I expect a perfect meal, and they never fail to meet my expectations.

They get a 4.5 out of 5 from me.

  9. intlxpatr says:

It’s one of our favorite places, too! It’s quiet and private, and the food is reliably good, just as you said. Hmmm. . . .. now I am very hungry!

  10. Purgatory says:

One of the best places to eat in Kuwait.

  11. blasha says:

    its more than good!!!!!

  12. Eating out at Baba Taher feels a lot like eating at someone’s place. How good is the Shahrayar at the Sheraton?

  13. 7zaya says:

Moo chinna kabab il 7ijja alath oo ar5a99?

  14. Yousuf : LoL ..

I find that using the 50 mm 1:8 lenses makes a good difference.. but it’s without zoom.. but still, I bought it recently and I love it! Maybe you have it I don’t know but because of the opening, it brings in more light for no flash pictures.. still, sometimes the inside is too dark.. I am not good at using flash yet.. so I fix the yellowish thing in a photo programme..

intlxpatr “the food is reliably good,” agreed! and i like how quiet it is too.

Purgatory I agree with that statement 🙂

blasha gotta try it then 🙂 thanks

the colour green Shahrayar is ok, not the best place to eat iranian dishes but its not bad either.

7zaya I don’t go to iranian restaurants for their kababs 😛 bs sij kabab il7ejja 3ajeeeb!

::: ShoSho ::: oh this lens seems good! I liked this review “This lens is great for portraits and because the aperture can be opened to 1.8 it gets enough light that flashless indoor pictures become feasible.” I’m buying this one! i’m buying it!

regarding the flash, people keep telling me use your flash, but I dont! I don’t like the flash and its effect on pictures! it makes them lose something. doncha agree?

  16. It’s really good! You should.. you will find it different to use lenses without zoom but by time, you will get used to it and love it..

Oh yeah! i HATE the flash! I think we need to learn how to diffuse the flash, rather than direct.. i read some methods, but never tried it..

  17. Yousef says:

::: ShoSho ::: thanks for the link, I liked what I read so far. ok since you own this lens I was wondering if its slow in any way?

if you want to take a picture of a moving object in a not very well lit room, i9eer? I mean will it come out blurry and dimmed? wila zaina bitkoon?
