Now that I’m full and looking at all these pictures, I can’t help but remember what my college professor (she’s Iraqi) told me when we were discussing the similarities of our dishes (Iraqi and Kuwaiti dishes). She said “we have many things in common, but we’re much more sophisticated when it comes to food, mostly because we were hugely influenced by the turks. Whereas your dishes, you of the gulf countries, your dishes aren’t presented well and sometimes I can’t even look at them. Look at your harees or whatever you call it for example, It looks like something that has been chewed and returned back”

Ista’3farallah.. But I think she really has a point! 😛

food is usually ranked the following from most important to least
    1- Taste ( Long term desire )
2- Smell ( Short term pull factor used as marketing technique)
3- Look ( Short term pull factor used as marketing technique)

As for our traditional food there is an influencing factor called “nostalgia”
which makes us eat what we know, if you ever lived outside your country you will know what I’m talking about.

Usually I laugh at those restaurants when they design the dishes part of their presentation, as if your going to lick ur dish or what I call waste of food. You might get the best looking food but no taste nor smell. It is as simple as that if the food looks glorious and sparkling and doesn’t taste good you will simply not going to eat it, unless you force yourself to eat it cause you paid more than what it deserves.

This is a good example that shows how taste is better factor than smell.

    The Durian Fruit

Durian is the name of the tree and the fruit. Durian is an expensive and exotic fruit from Asia and is referred to as “The king of all fruits”.”durian is a fruit that smells like hell but taste like heaven”. While almost everyone who has tasted the durian fruit agrees the taste is heavenly, no two ever describes the taste the same.
