I was there today in the parking lot when a perfectly healthy woman, along with her 2 healthy little daughters, parked her car in the handicapped parking area. They strolled past me and walked into the mall like there was nothing wrong with what she just did.

What a great role model.

My mother is in a wheelchair, and when we go out we sometimes have to deal with things like this. If only they knew how much they affect people that are already unfortunate enough to be wheelchair bound. To some you know what no handicap spots means? It means turning back and going back home, or elsewhere. Bottom line, it means they don’t get to go to the place they were driven to. What a lack of empathy.

I try to do the best for my mom. Yes, her disability puts such a strain on her, it really does affect her deeply. We all try to be there for her so that she doesn’t let it bother her as much. I looked at several wheelchairs, researched online, talked to several people, to try to get her the best one with our possibilities and her needs in mind. I didn’t know the first thing about wheelchairs when I started, but by the end I was an expert. I ordered the exact model I wanted from kdsmartwheelchair.com, and so far she has been enjoying it. I’m so thankful my hard work did pay off. She tries her best of course. We all do. It’s the good thing about family when it doesn’t turn into a full on mess as I’ve seen so many around me. The good thing being, it is the best emotional support structure a person could possibly ask for. Together we’ve overcome so much.

And yet others, much more fortunate, pictured here.

I once did that, not intentionally ofcourse but because I didn’t see the sign that was on the ground until I backing out and leaving! Maybe she was in the same situation?
They should put the big blue posted ones instead of the painted ground ones.

I do agree with wa7da. Even though this never happened to me, I can see how these spots can be confused with the Family parking (wide ones for easy stroller unloading).
As for this woman you saw, people like her won’t ever be considerate as long as there isn’t a penalty for their actions.

  3. That is very selfish and ignorant. In the US you would have to pay a large fine. * Nice blog 🙂

  7. Yousef says:

wa7da yemkin. but the sign was very clear and no car parked there until this woman came along.

dene noma there should be some sort of a penalty. it’s frustrating.

    expatandthecity Thanks and welcome 🙂

amk I don’t know what kind of a person she is to try and correct her.

    s. the sign was very visible. I saw it. LOTS of cars saw it and moved on to look for other parking spots.. so yeah.. it was visible.. that is why the parking was empty until she parked in it.

  10. Fahad says:

I actually know a guy that SCRATCHES the cars of the people who park in handicap spots..he actually draws a small wheel chair on their door…

Violators should be ticketed <150 KD — and spat on their face.

That’s really people attitude here in Kuwait. You could find more and more in different places.

  18. Zweiz says:

I have the red stickers that say in Kuwaiti “you took my handicap place why dont u take my handicap too” and what I do is stick it on the drivers window. Its red. I’ve been doing this for the past 4 years and I can see that a few co ops and places are using similar wording which is good.
I also once caught a guy that was removing the sticker and went over the car next to him which was a handicapped car and placed the same sticker on it. When I talked to him he didnt care one bit and threw the other stickers on the floor, which I picked up. He wasn’t even Kuwaiti. But we have weak goverment and a weaker police force to implement the law. its SAD.. NO ONE should park at the handicapped, no matter what their excuse is unless they are handicapped.

    @@ sn3a
so it would be finr for her to walk kilos inside the mall but not in the parking?! this is ridiculous!!

handicap parking is for handicaps only unless u are mentally retarded!

  20. fene noma says:

sn3a; if she does have a problem physically functioning or walking, she can get the wheelchair sign stuck on her car.
Is that your excuse when you park?
