Our friend over at Circus designs sent the following pictures of the Freeze Club and the Bowl Room at 360 Mall. I think it’s a nice change that we have such facilities in the malls now.

Check their new Website.

Om Kalthoom Exhibition at 360° Mall

Remember the Oum Kalthoom Exhibition that took place in Bahrain? Well it’s going to take place in Kuwait soon, on the 8th of July at the new 360° Mall to be specific. It’s going to last for awhile so no rush, but you gotta pass by it if you’re ever there, especially the photo gallery, take a look at them. I like looking at old pictures so I really enjoyed them back in Bahrain.

Mariahs new album MOAIA

Mariah Carey released her first single “Obsessed” a week or so ago, it’s off of her new album “Memoirs of an imperfect angel.” The song took some time to grow on me. I think it’s fun, relatively brave and confrontational for Mariah, as she used to be subtler at her jabs in the past.

I think the new album is going to be very good and I’m kinda hopeful that it’ll have better vocals than E=MC² (her previous album). But the album cover is disappointing to say the least, I mean it just looks wrong.. and IMO she could’ve been much more interesting visually.

The new album Memoirs of an imperfect angel is going to drop on the august 25th 2009.

I’ve always had a hard time keeping the books open for me to read, and since I prefer reading the book while in bed, I find it extra hard to keep the book open with my hand holding the book above me.

I searched amazon for a solution and got out with this little book holder/spreader. It arrived 2 days ago and I’ve tried it and so far, it’s working like a charm. It keeps the paperbacks open and has a good firm grip too. I can easily read a book now without struggling to keep the papers from closing in, and also without straining my palm to keep the papers apart.

The product isn’t perfect and it’s got some flaws:

-It won’t handle big books, or real thick ones.
-It’s a bit hard trying to flip the pages. It needs getting used to.
-The color sucks.

But overall, it does what it is made for.

Just got this video by email from my wife, This is supposed to be showen next Ramadan inshallah which i think is another one of those hidden camera/Sadaouh type of shows. Checkout how Mohamad Sayrafi is fabricating every thing and how the whole thins isn’t real at all!

real-madrid-spends-on-ronaldo

“Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of £80million for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid,” read a club statement.

“At Cristiano’s request – who has again expressed his desire to leave – and after discussion with the player’s representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player.

“Matters are expected to be concluded by 30 June. The club will not comment until further notice.”

Ronaldo’s future at United has been the subject of constant speculation with Real trailing his signature for the last three summers.

Real have now agreed £80million offer for the Portuguese ace and United have given the World Player of the Year permission to talk to the Spanish titans.

Ronaldo will now head to the Spanish capital to hold discussions with Real and undergo a medical.

Real have already snapped up Brazilian superstar Kaka in a world-record deal, but a move for Ronaldo would eclipse that deal.

From ESPN:

“I can officially say I’m a Real Madrid player. My professional link with AC Milan finishes now, but my sentimental link will never end,” he said.

“Real Madrid intend to build a great team, with historic players such as Raul and Casillas. We will make history again, both in Spain and Europe. I guess the sport project is very good.

“Now another chance came up and AC Milan is in a big crisis (financially). For me, the sporting project (at Madrid) is interesting and will be an important boost to continue my career in the highest level.”

“Kaka could now become the first of a new wave of ‘Galáctico’ signings, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso, David Villa and Franck Ribery all linked to the Spanish giants since Perez’s unopposed re-election as the club’s president last week.”

the-lovely-bones-2-more-books-to-the-pile

I finished The Lovely bones, which was a bit of a letdown. I mean people were praising it on the net and then book started out very promising, but throughout the book I was waiting for it to grab me, to get me hooked, but it didn’t. I finished it because I wanted to know what was going to happen to the killer.

As I was reading this book I was thinking to myself that it isn’t as good as I had hoped but that it would make a great movie. I just had a hunch about it, and just a few days ago I learned that it is a movie in the making starring Rachel Weisz, Mark Wahlberg & Susan Sarandon. It’ll be out in theaters on december 2009.

I bought 2 more books from Bahrain last week and they’re sitting there with the other pile of books that I bought. I read some but only finished the lovely bones. The 2 books above are The Night of the Miraj, and The Pillars Of The Earth. The latter was mentioned and praised on Intlxpatr’s blog a long time ago and I finally got around to buying it.

I need a couple of weeks off just to read all the books I have piled up.

diego-maradona-sports-cafe-in-dubai

Maradona is going to launch his first sports cafe in Dubai sometime next year. The cafe is going to have an all football theme and is developed by “UAE property tycoon Sulaiman Al Fahim, architect of last year’s Manchester City takeover.”

Excerpts from the article:

“The café – modelled on the Planet Hollywood concept – will feature memorabilia from the Argentinean footballer’s career, and also include items from other soccer stars such as Brazilian heroes Pele, Zico and Dunga.

Maradona’s cousin Remigio Martin Maradona told Arabian Business: “It will be a football café featuring themes from many football greats, not just Maradona.

It will be dedicated to soccer, with screens showing World Cup goals, and shirts, balls, gloves and other items donated by people like Pele,” he added.”

angels-demons-movie-review

I went in with very low expectations, I expected a disappointing adaptation of yet another great book by Brown, if not his best book, and I think this was the only reason I came out not as disappointed as I should be.

I think the movie was entertaining and is likely to have legions of movie goers praising it for the coming weeks. It is fast paced and high on thrills. However, and just like it’s predecessor, The Da Vinci Code, the movie pales next to the book. There was no time in the movie to squeeze all the information needed, And I think with that pace they were going, the viewer couldn’t grasp how big of an issue things like: illuminati, anti matter and path of illumination really were.

Despite that, the movie surpassed my expectations and I liked it. If you haven’t read the book, or have read it a long time ago (just like myself) then you’re going to enjoy the movie.

Movie censoring: The movie wasn’t censored a lot, except for 1 or 2 key moments, where we were left looking at each other for an explanation.

seeing-doubles

Yeah so I was looking for this book ‘The cry of the peacock’ in every country I’m in for about a year and a half now, I even told my brother to look for it all over london when he was vacationing there last christmas (maskeen dar 390 book shops with no luck. It’s out of stock and print, he said). So I finally had to order something off amazon and thought might as well include a couple of books in the shipment (I hate ordering online coz I don’t like to wait for stuff to be delivered. Yup I’d rather waste a year looking for the book instead). So when I finally received the book it turned out that I ordered more than one copy (not shifa7a, promise!). Anyones interested? I’m giving them away.. (the extra copies that is :P )

So.. (so many so’s in one post), I want to say something to those who like to read and immerse themselves in good books with middle eastern backgrounds.

1-”The Bastard of Istanbul” by the turkish author Elif Shafak is one of the best books I’ve ever read, it’s up there with the kite runner (yep thats the book I compare other books to). You have to read it if you haven’t done so already.

2-Alf Laila’s blog. It’s a blog by a talented Kuwaiti author. I’ve been following her writings and stories for a long time now, and I think she’s got the ability to write stories like the best of them. I hope she gets the recognition she deserves and I also hope that she finds it in herself to write the remaining parts of her latest story, Doubt, faster!

I’ve seen this video before but I still get a kick out of watching it :P

Thanks Taymoor

My brother told me about this incident where this defense player, Andrés Escobar, of the columbian team scored a goal against his own team. And I still can’t get over this guy getting murdered over this mistake in a game of football.. It is just sad.

From wikipedia:

“Andrés Escobar Saldarriaga (March 13, 1967 – July 2, 1994)

The USA won the game 2–1, and as a result, Colombia was eliminated from the tournament in the first round.

The BBC issued an apology the following day after its commentator said on another match that “the Argentine defender wants shooting for a mistake like that.”

fast-and-furious-movie

I haven’t been to the movies in a long time and I wished not to go back to the movies unless it’s a spectacular one. Unfortunately fate had decided that I go to Fast and Furious. A movie for people with no functioning brain cells (no offense). Its an action movie with lots of fast cars and furious people.

There are your typical characters: the good guy, the bad guy, and the guy who’s bad but then good at heart.. they all love to drive fast, and in order to save the country from a drug lord and another shipment of drugs, they have to drive fast and push their cars to the limit.

The movie is stupid and I’m sorry for the time I wasted watching it.
