Well, as you all may have known already, Dean & Deluca (fancy name huh?) has opened in the Avenues. My  brother went there and liked what he saw. He said that he liked the idea of having a fancy gourmet grocery store in Kuwait.

The place looked very fancy and spacious (attached to a relatively small cafe) and the products were of premium quality and most of them were the hard-to-find types in other groceries.

It has many things to offer including fresh fish, crabs, cheeses, fruits, veggies and sweets. Also a bakery and a wide variety of packed sauces (for pastas and stuff).

The place is a gourmet grocery store, so the prices.. yep you guessed it.. are high compared to other places like carrefour and sultan center, But you know, you get what you pay for.

I still haven’t checked it out. I want to go there sometime.

Thanks INM & HNM

Dean & Deluca

I was just asking my friend the same question and he said he likes the nescafe 3 in 1. For me, I’d have to go with water.. I drink 4 to 5 glasses of water and I’m enjoying every sip :p

What is YOUR favorite drinks at work?

recipe-mohammara

I thought the Sheraton’s Mhammara was the best till I tasted my in-law’s version. They got the recipe originally from fatafeat.com.

You’re going to need:

  • 4 red peppers (flaifla/felfel barid)
  • 1/2 cup of walnuts (joz)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 lemon’s juice
  • 1 Tablespoon of dibs ilroman (someone tell me what it’s called in english please)
  • 1 cups crispy, oven-toasted bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • Olive oil
  • Salt

Now to the part where we learn how to mix the above to create one of the best starters:

-Grill the red peppers till they turn blackish. Then put them in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap, and when they cool off, peal the skin, take out all the seeds and cut them up to pieces.

-Put the cut up red peppers and all the rest of the ingredients, except the olive oil, in the blender, and mix them till you get a thick texture. Then start adding olive oil while you’re mixing till you end up with a creamy texture. Voila! you’re done. Whip out a slice of bread and start dipping :)

Thanks Ahmad and Saleya for sharing the picture and the recipe.

Homemade pretzels

Mishary posted about the home made pretzels last week and we’ve been getting requests to post the recipe. Well, guys & gals, wait no more, here is the recipe:

  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tea spoon salt
  • 2 table spoon sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 package yeast (khameera)
  • 1 table spoon margarine (it’s a butter substitute. You can use butter)
  • 1 table spoon water
  • 1 egg yolk (beaten)
  • Coarse salt (mil7 khashin)

Mix the 1 cup of flour with the sugar, salt and yeast. Heat the 1 cup of water and margarine (butter) to 120-130 degrees, then add it, gradually, to the mix. Beat for 2 minutes at medium speed, then add 1/2 cup of flour. Beat again at high speed for another 2 minutes. Then add some more flour till you make a soft dough (zeedaw 3almix 67een lain ibnetharkom t9eer 3ayeena layna.. mayabeelha ‘3isham). Take the soft dough and put it on floured board and work the dough with your hands for 5 minutes, then cover it and let it rest for 40 minutes.

Divide the dough to 12 equal parts. Roll the parts to form ropes, and then shape them into pretzels or any other desired shape. place on greased baking sheet and let it rest for 5 minutes while you mix the egg yolk and the 1 table spoon of water to brush on the pretzels. Finally sprinkle the coarse salt on top. Bake for 15 minutes at a 375 degrees.

o bil3afya :)

Thanks Saleya

I heard and read a lot of raving reviews and praises from bloggers and friends alike about The Early Bird, and wanted to go there for a long time now but the restaurant’s location and it’s opening times didn’t make it easy for me to try it out sooner, but thanks to bu9ale7’s persistence, we finally managed to pay a visit this weekend.

kdd-vending-machine

We were just done taking pictures for this post when we saw this KDD vending machine right outside the scientific center. Has it been done before by KDD? coz I think it’s a cool idea and should’ve been done a long time ago.

Thanks HKR

I went to Prime & Toast with a couple of friends the other day based on the many praises I’ve heard about the breakfast at this place. I’ve been to the place once before for dinner and I liked it, but since I don’t like breakfasts much, I went with low expectations.

blue-bell-vanilla-ice-cream-2

My friend bought me a dozen of this vanilla ice cream some time ago for me to try. I did try them and took pictures then forgot to tell you guys about them. The ice cream is very good and the portion although small, very satisfying. It’s available in Sultan center (I just called my friend to ask about the price and he said “I forgot how much exactly but i think they’re 250 fils a piece”).
