After having lunch at Maki we decided it’s time for a great dessert, and the white chocolate blondie was so fitting to our post Maki mood, (Speaking of Maki, did you notice how Maki’s menu has more deep-fried mayo-covered and cheese-sprinkled dishes than any of the fast food joints? that’s not the point of the post)

The white chocolate blondie is a dessert available in Applebee’s, it’s basically a white chocolate cake with bits of walnuts in it, it’s chewy and a brownie like in texture, topped with a vanilla ice cream scoop and white buttery maple syrup sauce, all presented in a hot skillet. It’s thick, delicious, filling and Sweet and is guaranteed to ruin your figure in seconds so don’t attempt it if your health matters at all. (and I digress again).

The thing is, it has changed, and isn’t the same anymore. They changed the recipe, it was a great disappointment. We let the manager know that we hated it. He was a nice guy and he admitted that he was worried when he knew we were here just for the blondie, coz he had many blondie regulars over the past couple of weeks complain about the sudden change in the recipe. So yeah, he told us he’s going to let their american suppliers know about the negative feed back and all.

The White Chocolate Blondie in it’s heydays was the best dessert anyone could have in Kuwait!

Have you ever scared your parents to death by getting lost?

I did. Twice.

The First time:
1984 In Turkey.

I have no recollection of this incident coz I was only 2. They told me that they were sitting in a big garden and all of the sudden they couldn’t find me. They scanned the whole garden and went to it’s edges trying to find me, with no luck, and after some time, they found me at near the place where they were sitting originally, but behind some trees. I was sitting on the ground and throwing little pebbles at something that made a sound. They said I was totally transfixed on the sound that I did not notice I was alone.

The Second time:
1987 in Brighton, England.

I was 5 and my brother was 9. He and I were at an amusement park at the beach and we ran out of money. The apartment wasn’t very far away, so my brother came up with a brilliant idea. The idea was: I should wait at the park, alone, while he runs back to the apartment and get some money. He pointed out the white building where our apartment was located to assure me that it wasn’t that far and that I should wait, so I agreed. He asked me to stay near the giant ‘ball pit’, you know the big pit with lots of little plastic balls in it (like this one), and I did, I waited for him to go to the apartment and back.

I waited for what seems like an eternity (you know how kids are) but I was getting bored. I dug my hands in my pockets, maybe to find something interesting to play with, but I found a couple of pounds, so I thought “why not play inside the ball pit rather than wait for him outside and be bored?” So I went in, I played for a long time and I was again getting bored, and my brother wasn’t here yet.

I got out of the pit, and waited outside for a little bit, it was getting darker and I was losing hope and I remember thinking maybe he forgot about me. So I raised my head and saw the white building and decided that maybe it’s not that far for me to walk back alone. Yeah! why not. But on my way I found my dad and uncle near a food stand buying some food, and they took me home. I remember thinking “Oh my dad is there, what a coincidence, let me go to him instead of walking back to the apartment alone.”

Now, what really happened was: My brother came back and looked around for me but couldn’t find me, so he got scared and went back to the apartment and told everybody that he had lost me. My father and uncle got freaked out and went out looking for me. My mother who was in the shower got out and put something on and went looking for me with her hair still wet. A major freaking out occured while I was playing inside that ball pool. And when I saw my dad at that food stand, turns out they weren’t there buying food (Duh!) they were asking everybody in that amusement park if they came across a little 5 year old boy.

Is there something wrong with the internet? I’m writing this using my blackberry (yeah that’s how slow the net is!).
Anyway I hope this thing doesn’t persist.
Update: It seems the problem is fixed now.

One of my best lenses fell (along with the camera.. Gasp!) on the cold harsh asphalt outside our house, and pieces of little things rolled out of it’s little body.. Poor little thing. I’m over dramatizing by the way coz I’m gonna throw it away and buy another one just like it. ThankGod nothing happened to the camera, coz it fell along with the lens, very tough camera! Mashallah.

This is the last picture I took before the fall. Isn’t it just captivating?

This lens is the best investment I’ve made when it comes to buying things for my camera. I think it’s a great lens for 2 reasons: First because it’s really cheap compared to the other lenses, secondly, I love this lens coz it makes dull pictures look good and makes me look like a great photographer, not that I’m not, but yeah it makes me look even better

I loved it and I’m gonna buy a new one just like it. it’s $99 and I highly recommend it.

I’ve taken These pictures with this lens.

I’m sure most of you are annoyed out of your mind by flies when you’re outdoor, and so are we. We tried everything but nothing works better than this thing pictured above. All you need to do is pour some in a plate and place it somewhere close. The pesticide that looks like brown sugar attract the flies and once they get a taste, they’re doomed. It works wonderfully.

How does it work:
“The insect, attracted by the sugary granules and the sex pheromone contained in the bait, licks them and gets rapidly poisoned.”

This is how it should look like awhile later, LINK.

I got it from Abdali Co op, but I’m sure you can find it somewhere closer if you looked.

Pouring Honey into a plate and waiting for the flies to drown in it.

It’s in there

Struggling

Reaching out

Dead

There were dozens of other flies roaming around.. So yeah I’d go with the first solution if I were you.

If I’m not mistaken it was KD3 a can.

I love having toffee nut latte from starbucks and I look forward to it every year around november, it’s only available around christmas time, but there is a thing they do that annoys me.

The Toffee nut latte is different from regular lattes because they add 2 more ingredients. Only 2 things they add to transform this normal latte into a toffee nut latte. These 2 things are the toffee nut syrup, and the crunchy toffee sprinkles that they sprinkle on top. My problem is, the sprinkles has ran up, it’s out of stock in both of the two branches that I go to, but when I’m placing my order they don’t bother informing me that they no longer carry the sprinkles, they just go ahead, charge me the full amount and start preparing the toffee nut latter minus one of the two main ingredients.

If these 2 ingredients are what makes it a different drink, how can they take one out without informing the customer? This has happened the last year as well. Why not take it off the menu then?

I called some of the branches (all of Kuwait’s 71 branches are listed HERE) and I couldn’t find the sprinkles in any of the ones I called. I asked and one of the employees said “It’s been out of stock for over 2 weeks now” Another employee said “it’s out of stock for a week. Try one of the smaller branches some may still have them.”

I just wanted to know why are they still selling them if they’re missing 1 of the 2 ingredients. Eventually I called this one starbucks employee who was nice enough to get straight to the point “We’re trying to finish what is left of the toffee nut latte syrups and sprinkles because we should be done with this promotional drink by the 26th.. We’re having an offer on the syrup as well, it used to be KD3 and now it’s for KD1.250.”

So they’ve been selling their halfhearted promotional drink because they want to get rid of the remaining syrups before the deadline.

Where I work I have to use the elevator in the parking everyday. The elevator is big and could fit well over 7 people, which is good, considering we’re always in a hurry to get to work or back to our cars. So, I, being the great person that I am, always let the ladies get in and out first.

One time, as I was waiting for the elevator, a nice lady waiting next to me talked to me and told me “I always see you letting the girls in first. You shouldn’t do that, they’re unappreciative” I couldn’t agree more. Some of you girls are just pathetic. (Keyword: Some)

When I show the common courtesy of allowing a lady to enter an elevator before I do, it by no means indicates that it’s alright for some idiots waiting for the elevator to pass me, and fill the elevator, leaving me stranded without a lift!

I don’t know why some of the girls don’t get the concept behind this nice thing, some of the men, do. My willingness to let you in first does not mean I’m willing to wait for the next elevator, and it does not mean I enjoy letting you in first.. It just mean that I’m willing to let one woman go in ahead of me out of politeness. It’s not an open invitation for all the ignorant women waiting behind me to stampede their way in!

If you were ever behind a guy who was waiting for the elevator ahead of you:

STAY behind him.

WAIT for him to let you in first.

DON’T crowd the elevator entrance.

BE THANKFUL when someone let’s you in first!

Some of the girls make me think twice before being polite again! It’s no wonder that common courtesy isn’t so common anymore! God!

Most of us if not all know about Showaiter Sweets from Bahrain. Showaiter Sweets is Bahrain’s trademark, and you just can’t go to Bahrain without passing by and buy some Halwa for you relatives. And I always wanted to see the factory. I’ve seen how they make the Halwa on tv, but I had to go to the factory this time. I just had to. I asked around and learned that the factory is in Almuharrag. We went there and started looking for it. We found the shop where they sell the halwa and the nice guys at the shop led us to the factory, which was 5 minutes away.

The place from the outside did not look like a sweet factory, it looked more like a garage, a dirty garage at that. We entered. It was a little bit unclean. Boxes and discarded cartons were everywhere. We entered a small closed area where we found a couple of guys, facing each other and hunched over what seemed like a big, deep frying pan, that had all sort of smokes coming out from it.

This was it. The place I longed to see was right in front of me and I was not the least bit excited. Actually I was disappointed.

The sweet was being prepared when we arrived and I managed to get over my disappointment and take some pictures.

As you can see, we were all shocked at the state of the “factory” and the people working there.

The halwa itself did not look unclean, just surroundings. (We bought some)

But! on the the other side of the room, 3 guys were hunching over a plastic bucket, and they looked like they were filling some cans. My friends, who looked flushed and disgusted were waving and calling me silently to come over and see what those 3 guys were doing. So I went over there and got closer to the 3 workers.. I was totally blown away by the disgusting scene. You know the famous Bahraini Jam? we call it “trining” I think.. a big load of trining was in the big bucket, and the 3 guys were grabbing the jam with their bare hands and filling the cans with it. Bare hands people. They were up to their elbows, dripping with jam, with their watches and rings on, filling the small cans and then handing the cans to another guy so he could wipe them and send them off to the shop to sell them.

One of the guys pulled his hand out of the bucket and was offering me some jam. He actually insisted that I take some jam off of his bare hands (rings on) and try some. I thanked him and did not even go near him.

I remember when I saw how they do Halwa on tv, the place looked clean! very unlike what we’ve seen. Maybe showing up unannounced has it perks.. I still remember my friends faces as they were standing next to the jam people. We were all shocked and disappointed at the sanitary condition of the place.

I don’t know if this was a typo or just an offer for an old Air that ended.

Can someone clarify?

I told you one time about Applebee’s and their Cowboy BBQ Sirloin Fajitas. I just went to their Mishref branch and had the same order again. I asked the waitress to make sure the fajita is cooked to medium, and again I was surprised at how good it is (we’re talking about Applebee’s here, so when I say good, I mean by their standards). This fajita is juicy and tender when it’s medium. I like it.

I had lunch at the Noodle House recently to try out their new addition to the menu. They added Green Chicken Curry, a dish I used to worship back in Dubai. Unfortunately it was way below my expectations.. it was too spicey (take into consideration that I’m a spicey food lover myself) I couldn’t enjoy the food because of how hot it was, and the chicken was a bit on the stinky side, and the curry itself was too concentrated and thick. I hope they get their act together soon.
