blackberry_messenger_no_good

We posted earlier about the what we thought a new leaked software for the Blackberry messenger, but I guess we all know about that fake/corrupted file and how it contains many bugs, and in some cases fatal ones.
However, there is a solution..

FIRST BACK UP YOUR DATA

1. Then go to Options - Adv. Options - Apps - highlight BBM 5.0, press the menu key and delete it on your phone.

2. From there, connect your device to a PC, launch DM (Desktop Manager), go into APP LOADER (settings or options) and click bb messenger 4.6.0. Click next and it should install the previous version on your device that says (downgrade, not preferred) unclick bbm 5.0 if it comes up.

3. Then when u do that, do step 3. again but this time click preferred, that'll update ur phone back to before, just w/o that new bbm.

Thats it :)

How to handle unsatisfied customers

We went to AlHambra restaurant at the Sheraton the other day. We had a very bad experience over there. Something major went wrong with the dessert so we called the manager. He handled the problem in the worst way possible, I decided to leave the place and head back home, but my friend was so offended by the way he was treated that he stayed and took the problem to a higher level, then higher, till he reached the general manager.

At that point I was peacefully at home getting ready to sleep. My phone rang as I was getting into bed, and there was my friend telling me the following:

“I told the GM about the problem, and how they handled it, and he was more than great with me, he solved the problem, made feel better and just before leaving he insisted that I accept his offer. You won’t believe his offer.”

Me: What offer?

“He told me that you and your friend are invited to stay for 2 nights at one of the hotel’s suites, either at the 4 points or the Sheraton itself! We chose!”

Me: What!!?

“Even when I told him I’m not sure my friend would accept, he said that he is ready to pick the phone and call you and insist that you accept the offer! he asked for your phone number too”

We’re not decided whether we should accept this offer, but aside from that, isn’t that what all managers should do when a customer isn’t satisfied? I don’t mean every restaurant should get their unsatisfied customers a suite :P but just be professional about it, go that extra mile and show the people that you care and want to retain them as customers, for life!

They messed up big time, AlHambra and even the Sheraton’s image got shaken that day, but the way they ultimately handled the situation got me sucked right back in.

What do you say? Accept the offer or make a point by not accepting?

how-do-you-deal-with-backstabbers-at-work

I had my first backstab experience at work today. At first I was kind of shocked, but then that subsided and I’m left with disgust. I don’t feel betrayed, coz the backstabber had no grounds for their accusation, but I’m just amazed at some people’s ability to do such things.. Froid needs to study this person.

Have you ever been backstabbed at work? How did you deal with it?

ninos-steak

I went to Nino today, I ordered the fondoto* (which is a starter only available at their gulf road branch, that consist of spinanch, prawns, mushrooms, and fondoto sauce (cream sauce) gratinated and topped with parmesan cheese.) and then their angus certified steak for the main course. I told the waiter twice that I want a medium steak, not a well-done, not a medium-well, but a medium! twice! He brought it over to our table, it looked weird and flat, as in hammered flat (It looked, felt and tasted like a big round burger). I cut it and it was a well done. I called the waiter and complained, he couldn’t believe it coz he said he made sure to tell the chef himself. I said no problem, just replace the steak and this time I want a medium. He goes with my dish, returns 5 minutes later with another well done.

Now I got upset, I called the manager and he came over all nice and smiley and I said I’ve got one question and I need a one word answer. just one word, either yes or no. Does this look like a medium steak to you? He wanted to talk so I interrupted him “Either yes or no.” He then take a closer look and said No this is a medium well.

I asked him to take it off the bill coz I refuse to pay for something I did not order and he did. He was very apologetic too, which is good, made me less upset. But then he called the chef over. The chef came over and he was trembling. I don’t know what happened back in the kitchen for him to come out shaking like that (even my friend noticed. It was weird), and I asked him the same question, is it a medium steak *pointing at the steak* and he said Yes this is a medium steak. So I said ok I have nothing else to say to you, if we couldn’t agree on something this obvious, then there is not point in arguing. But that didn’t stop him. He kept telling me that this is how “their medium looks like” and then branched out to explain about their streaks and (read this carefully) how they Hammer the steaks, yes they hammer them just like a scallop, to make them look larger, and that is why it looks like this. After arguing a bit over how they’re not supposed to hammer a steak, and him not caring for what I had to say, I gave up. Now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t know what hammering the steak got to do with it being overcooked, but at that point I was just nodding him off.

I hate it, just HATE it when I get an over cooked steak after asking them clearly and repeatedly NOT to do so in advance. And this isn’t their first time to screw up a meal.

I don’t know if this ever happened to you, but yesterday I was heading to the Avenues for lunch and just 3 minutes before reaching the mall I looked at what I was wearing and discovered that I was wearing my house slippers instead of a real decent ones! It was hilarious discovering that. I was about to turn back home but thankfully my friends were there ahead of me, so they bought me a pair of Crocs and brought them down to me in the parking lot..

highway-road

I have been encountering some idiots on the roads lately, well we all have, but there is a new kind of idiots. Let me explain!

You know when you’re in a hurry and driving on the left lane and you’ve got a car in front of you that just won’t move to the right? Well, I don’t like to flash the cars in front of me so I get close, then too close. As a last resort I turn up the headlights once or twice so they could wake up and move to the right. Anyway, nowadays there is a new kind of angry drivers on the scene so beware! They won’t move to the right until they see a road camera coming up, and that’s when they speed up a bit, making you do the same, then they move to the right and hit their breaks so you end up getting caught by the camera!

It happened to me more than once now, and thankfully I was always aware that there was a camera ahead. But still, what kind of a sick person would do such a thing!? And why are they so offended by the thought of giving way that they had to have some sort of a revenge?!

borders-issue-still-unsolved

Both the issue of Kuwait’s legal right for compensation from Iraq for the damages caused by 1990 invasion, and the borders issue were raised again by Iraq’s Parliament members.

I don’t get how they can stand there and ask Kuwait to drop the money owed, as a compensation, for something as horrendous as what they as a country did less than 20 years ago.

They also want to re map the borders from their internationally recognized borders, to what they think is their “historic” locations, which is a thing that totally negates the united nations resolutions. They also said that Kuwait wants to get past the borders demarcation issue because Kuwait wants to exploits it’s neighbors natural resources as long as possible. They believe that Kuwait’s stance is holding Iraq down and is causing harm to both countries.

One MP said that we shouldn’t be too cocky to renegotiate the borders and the compensation issues, and that we also shouldn’t be too trustful of the US and our american connections, because the US is closer to them now, as an ally, than it is with Kuwait.

This is what MP Saleh AlMullah had to say when asked about the issue:

“the sovereignty of Kuwait is above all other considerations” And “The Idea of giving up an inch of the country or any of it’s financial or moral rights are not permissible at all.”

Aren’t you just mad at the accusations? I mean, couldn’t a country with less bad name and violent history accuse us of such things?!

blast-in-ny-starbucks

Update:

Some were complaining that the video embedded wasn’t working so I took it down and put up a link instead.

From Reuters

“NEW YORK (Reuters) – An explosion on Monday damaged a coffee shop in New York, according to police who were investigating whether the blast was linked to earlier bombings at the British and Mexican consulates.

The small bomb explosion at about 3:30 a.m. EDT shattered windows and damaged a wooden sidewalk bench at a Starbucks on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, police said. The store was closed at the time, and no injuries were reported.”

Hopefully it’s just an off incident that had nothing to do with terrorist and us evil muslims. View a video of the news coverage HERE.

Be safe FAH :P

swine-flu-in-kuwait

Just checked Mark’s blog an found out about this very concerning news. I did some googling anf found out that the disease, according to the officials, haven’t spread among the civilians, yet, just the unspecified number of US troops, and that the patients are being taken care of and some have been deported back to their country.

From ABC news:

A number of United States soldiers who passed through Kuwait have swine flu, a health official says, adding there are no cases among Kuwaitis.

Undersecretary of Health Ibrahim al-Abdulhadi told the official KUNA news agency the unspecified number of soldiers were immediately isolated at the US base in Arifjan, 70 kilometres south of the capital.

He said they were given the necessary medication and that most had left the country.

An unspecified number of others were kept for treatment at the base hospital. No details were given on their condition.

Mr Abdulhadi said Kuwait itself was free of the disease.

These new police cars are going to be equipped with special kinds of cameras, those cameras can detect the license plate’s numbers and run them on the police system/database, and just like that the police will know whether you should be stopped and get a ticket (for example if your insurance/license had expired) or be arrested for having a major violation; a stolen car for example. It also detects your speed and deliver an instant speeding ticket. The camera can detect up to 50 license plates per second, of cars going on up to 200 KMPH.

The article also states that these new police cars are going to patrol all the land, air and sea ports.

What’s up with the highways today?! I’m still stuck between the 6th and 5th ring roads!

I thought traffic would go down by now, since the finals are nearing.. I’m so gonna be late for work today..

Update:
I finally managed to arrive at work, late by 2 hours. I heard in the radio that the cause of the traffic jam at King faisal’s highway (highway 50) was caused by a bursted water tank in Qurtoba. The nice people were slowing down whenever they see signs of leakage so they could get a closer look at the mess.

Just got an email from HNM’s friend and i will let her say what she’s got to say from A-Z:

“One day in the Arts college-Kaifan (KUNIV), I was really starving for any bite of food. I saw this new thing called the Thai-something salad. The brown dressing looked fairly dreadful and I got woozy a little bit because of its highly unusual colour and odour; ”it was the most dreadful thing that could be eaten”, I thought, well, little did I know! I mean, I can understand a bug’s need to eat, and to eat healthy nonetheless, but why do we have to share the same salad dish?! Is it too much to ask for? Yes it is the truth; you can’t deny it; you can run from it, you can go and hide in Africa from it, but it’s not going anywhere: “THERE WAS A DEAD BUG IN MY SALAD!”.

smoke-house

Reading Intlxpatr & Mark’s posts about the newly opened restaurant, Smoke House, was enough to make me want to go there and experience it myself. Before going I asked a couple of friends about the place, and they all said it’s Ok. Nothing more and nothing less, the place is just ok. But I went anyway.

The place is small and had around 7 tables only. It’s in a hard to come across location location and is partially owned by an american (cool factor & authenticity factor). Unfortunately my experience wasn’t a good one. And Here is why:

The food was mediocre at BEST. Nothing special about the food at all:

1- The chicken wings’ (which is considered a specialty in this restaurant) presentation was horrible. The wings looked and tasted like they were cooked a couple of hours ago and then heated up in an oven then served.

2- Their smoke house burger was nothing special. The patty was too dry and the bun was too thick. Even my friend who had this burger a month ago said that it isn’t the same anymore.

3- The ribeye steak, my order, was recommended by the waitress as the house special dish, turned out like a fridays’ steak. I ordered it medium and got a well done.

The service:

The waitress was very nice, but I can’t say the same about the waiter nor the manager. The waiter couldn’t care less when I told him that the wings weren’t fresh, and when I told him I ordered a medium steak not a well done, he just smiled and left.

On our way out me and my friend had a little chat with the manager that went like this:

Friend: The chicken wings was different this time than the last time I was here.
Manager: No it’s the same.
Friend: No, I was here and my friends ordered the wings and it was different.
Manager: No, Thats what you think. I know it is the same.
Me: The wings weren’t fresh.
Manager: No they’re fresh. they were cooked at around 6pm only. (we were eating the wings at 8:30pm)
Friend: The food is different this time, even the burger! I ate here a month ago and everything was good!
Me: see this is my first time in this restaurant, so I don’t know if the way you cook has changed or not, but I just want to say that most of the food wasn’t good.
Manager: (in a very careless tone that lasted throughout the conversation) Listen, I know that my food hasn’t changed a bit, because I cook here, I made the recipes and the dishes and everything… I do everything here.
Friend: and we ate the food, so we know..
Manager: Yes the food I made.
Me: You know, you have an amazing way of arguing with the customers.

Thats when he retracted a bit, realized that he shouldn’t have argued so much, and said the ‘I will try and see what went wrong.. I appreciate your opinion..’ bla bla bla. Too little too late.

The hype surrounding this place was big, and the disappointment I felt, after eating the food and dealing with this disrespectful manager, was bigger.

stupid-guy-parking

The parking was full and the place is crowded. I saw this empty parking spot and drove the car over just to discover that a very low form of life has taken up 2 spaces instead of 1. I don’t get how this type of people think! I mean how selfish they could get?! People like this guy disgust me.

I’m not the kind of guys who’d feel good damaging other people’s stuff, but today I KNOW I would’ve felt much better had I scratched both sides of the car with the tip of my key..

I filed a complaint instead (boring) and asked the management to take some action, they promised they will. Inshallah they will.

My brother told me about this incident where this defense player, Andrés Escobar, of the columbian team scored a goal against his own team. And I still can’t get over this guy getting murdered over this mistake in a game of football.. It is just sad.

From wikipedia:

“Andrés Escobar Saldarriaga (March 13, 1967 – July 2, 1994)

The USA won the game 2–1, and as a result, Colombia was eliminated from the tournament in the first round.

The BBC issued an apology the following day after its commentator said on another match that “the Argentine defender wants shooting for a mistake like that.”
