I’m new to the non alcoholic beers (malts) world, Ali was recommending and insisting on drinking this HOLSTEN (grenadine flavor) So my first try was couple of days ago and once i have drank it esara7a i couldn’t resist it! its SO DELESIOUS! it remind me of Shani.

My question is, Since im new in this world any of you guys have tried anything better? Can anyone recomend any other brand?

P.S.: i took these pictures with my mini studio. :)

I ordered from Lacoste.com using my NBK Visa card and got my order through Shop&Ship (used their address as my billing’s). The shipping to my NY address was free of charge. Since they have a much bigger collection online and much more reasonable prices than their boutiques (especially the limited edition shirts, they’re much cheaper online), I’ll keep all my lacoste shopping from now on strictly online.

A couple of days ago my brother mentioned this Mcdonald’s fries lookalike, he said the fries looks exactly like McDonald’s and it tastes really good for a frozen home fried french fries. This weekend when we were in Chabd, we did a little barbeque and coincidently there was this McCain fries on the table, so I tried it. Now, I liked it, it tasted really good, nowhere near as good as McDonald’s, but it was reallly goood. I just did some googling before writing this post, and you know what? IT IS the fries McDonald’s use! the same manufacturer at least. McDonald’s use McCain’s Fries.

From McDonalds site:

MacFries from McCain were found to be one of the best. The award means that McCain fries, produced for McDonald’s to strict specifications, can now be used as a benchmark by other McDonald’s fry suppliers worldwide.

I was told it can be found in most Co-ops.

I was recommended this Kuwaiti version of Youtube by a friend of mine last weekened. It isn’t an old site, it debuted according to them on march of this year. I’m loving it. It got full length movies and is somehow, to me, faster than youtube.. which is weird.

The people behind the site are doing a great job. Check it out, LINK.

Thanks Sulaiman.

On the last day of our little weekend trip to Dubai we went to The Meat Company for lunch. The restaurant wasn’t a favorite of mine, I gave it a couple of tries in the last 2 years but it never clicked; the starters weren’t all that, the steaks were never tender enough, and there was always this unfair comparison in my head between it and Gaucho Grill, in which Gaucho always won.

We reserved a table the night before, the place wasn’t packed, far from it actually, but I’d always reserve a table if I were you, just in case.

We ordered the following for starters:

Chicken Caesar salad

When I was studying there I couldn’t spend enough time in Borders, it always was a rush whenever I’m there; friends waiting outside, late for the movies or a restaurant.. etc. But this time, I was able spend all the time I wanted in Borders, and it felt good.

We stayed in Crown Plaza when we were in Dubai last weekend, it’s in Festival City and connected through an indoor path to the Mall which was a really great idea, no need for a taxi to get you there, Actually it was connected to the Intercontinental Hotel all the way to the mall. Our offer was really good which was 2 nights plus the tickets all that for KD92 including the taxes. So you can imagine the whole hotel was occupied by Kuwaities :)

This is the lobby. Its small but still got a nice finishing.

Since we were 6 people we took 3 rooms and one of the rooms got upgraded to a suite, So guess who took it? Akeeeed Mishary & his wife :) and this was part of our suit :)

That was the view from our room (i didnt photoshop it) all the pics came straight from my Camera.

This place is probably one of the worst looking shops and most unsanitary place to pick some food or drinks at, But amazingly it’s extremely crouded at every single hour of the day. I love this place, The best Karak (Tea with milk/Chay 7aleeb) can be found there.

This is the approximate location.

Brief History:

The restaurant was recommended by 9K2HN. He ate at this restaurant with his family and cousins more than 20 years ago. He came to know about this restaurant when they were staying in one of Geneve’s hotels back in the mid 80’s. Back then they weren’t familiar with the country as much as they are now, so they asked the hotel and were recommended this restaurant. They took a taxi and went there. They liked it and kept the restaurant’s card. In the coming years, whenever they wanted to go back to this restaurant, they’d go to the Noga Hiltion Hotel (Now its Kempinski) and take a taxi from there to the restaurant coz its so hard to get there without a taxi. fast forward to yesterday.. 9K2HN, his brother and me wanted to go back there. He dug up the restaurant’s card and used modern day technology to get there, A.K.A. the GPS. The waiter was very surprised to see the restaurant’s old card with us, He said he recognized the logo but not the card itself coz its too old.

According to 9K2HN, the restaurant is still as it was over 20 years ago. Its basically a villa somewhere in geneve (I don’t think I can get there without a GPS either). You can choose to sit inside or in the terrace. The inside of the restaurant feels like you’re in a hut or cabin. The restaurant specializes in Grills. They bring you your own little coal filled barbeque grill and you do the grilling. You can choose one or a mix of their boneless meats. They offer: beef, lamb, chicken, duck, turkey, fish, shrimps and squids. Each dish comes with fries and an appetizer of your choice (smoked salmon, salad mêlée/mix…etc.

My father used to take us to this restaurant when I was a kid. Back then I didn’t care much for staying in the restaurant, I was more interested in the swings outside.

The place was run by a nice old lady, her and the cook were the only 2 people working there. Now the old lady has left and her daughter took her place. We went on friday and were greeted by the Chef, he showed us to our table, gave us the menus, brought the drinks, cooked the dishes, presented them and gave us the check!

The dishes are amazing in this little place. They’re very simple and not a whole lot of choices are there to choose from, but from my experience, you cannot go wrong with their limited variety, well.. if you’re going to order a goose liver or a monkey’s feet thats another issue.

It’s been awhile since I last heard something new from Whitney Houston, but Whitney is back people! I just got her new song featuring Akon, titled “Like I never Left”. Its a nice breezy summer song, a catchy slow jam and for some it could be a perfect sing along song. Just the perfect song to ease back into the public and for the people to warm up to her again. Akon’s part is good too, their voices compliment each others.

I think its good they decided (and by they I mean Clive Davis) to leak a song like ‘Like I Never Left’, which I consider a safe song. Vocally and lyrically its very safe and could be received well at radio. They could’ve easily gone with a big production big over the top vocals, but They were smart not to do so, imo, and by leaking this song so casually without announcing to the world that its her first single from her new album, they’ll get a chance to remind people of Whitney and at the same time avoid getting harsh criticism for it not being first single material.

I like the song a lot. Here, listen for yourself:

I just discovered Oobleck! Its called Oobleck! When I first read the name I got curious and read some more then went on youtube and found many videos about Ooblecks! lol I don’t know whether this is old news or not. :P

This substance is solid AND liquid! it gets solid when you apply pressure, and when you don’t, it turns back to liquid! its freaky at first but then it gets so much FUN!

I tried it just 10 minutes ago. ALL you need is 1.5 cups of corn starch (nisha ilthora) and 1 cup of water.. I added some more starch afterward to have a thicker texture. This thing gets VERY sold when you grab it and squeeze it, but when you loose your grip, it melts right out of your hands and fingers. You can add color, any color, just for more fun.

You should all try this NOW!

Again, You need:

1 1/2 cup of corn starch.
1 cup of water
color, any color (mo lazim)

This video may help as well:

When I first discovered foret noir, or black forest, the cake (duh), I was not so fond of it. What is there to like anyway? it is supposed to be some kind of a chocolate cake that doesn’t taste quite like chocolate, it has this sour syrup that everybody on this earth hates with a vengeance, and its covered with this thin layer of cheap whipping cream (the ones I tried are cheap) then covered again with something that is supposed to look and taste like chocolate flakes. It is hatable. Almuhaissin, I think, is one of the main reasons why I’ve always hated the black forest, the other reason being the egyptian movies and the way they pronounce it’s name; belack foorest.

Anyway. I discovered this AMAZING cafe (actually, I didn’t discover anything. Mom took me to this cafe 2 years ago and made me try their foret noir) their foret noir is nothing like almuhaissin’s! its nothing like any other black forest i have ever tasted. First of all they got it right and won major points for cutting that sour syrup out of the recipe, then they scored even more points for including a chocolate paste (is it called paste? its a layer of melted chocolate) that works perfectly with the cake, very subtly sweet, it adds this whole other dimension to the otherwise boring cake and it kind of redefines the cake. Then there is the award winning whipped cream layer which takes it to a new level.

Actifed Duo is one of the best allergy medicines I have ever tried, even better than the mighty Zyrtec. It has double effect, acting as both an allergy drug and a running nose’s. I also love it coz I don’t feel drowsy/sleepy after taking a pill.

Highly recommended.

Mont Salève (1380m) is in france right next to the swiss borders. Its one of the nearest mountains to geneva and once you’re up there, you’ll have a panoramic view of geneva and all the cities next to it. I think I can see all the way to lausanne (I think Montreux is blocked by the Mountains near Evian).

You can go up there either by using the Telepherique (Cable car) or by car. I prefer using the car, gives a sense of adventure (I’m afraid of heights). We went there last week, by car ofcourse, my brother was in the driver’s seats, driving the manual car (which makes our heads go back and fourth with every gear shift!). The trip took less than 15 minutes. There is a little cafe on top (many cafes) which overlooks the whole thing and just a few meters away from the cafe there is this flying-edge where (crazy people, as mom would refer to them, elmeyaneen) jump off and fly with their parachutes.

This is the stadium where some of the UEFA games were held.

The giant football hovering over geneva’s skies.

There is this tiny little restaurant in Movenpick Hotel called Al Dente. It can easily be overlooked by everybody who hasn’t been in and ate one of its various dishes. Its little, the decoration is so so, and its in Movenpick. As you can see the odds that can come between you and one of the better italian restaurants in Kuwait.

I’ve been to this restaurant countless times. I like it because its not crowded, its consistent and I can have the pasta my way, which is a thing I really appreciate in an italian restaurant. I always order their pasta (whatever kind I feel like when I visit) with the cream sauce, I love heir cream sauce, its heavy so I always make sure that I stay away from any kind of appetizers just to make enough space for the main course. Recently my friend introduced me to a new kind of creamy sauce, it’s pink, a mixture of white and red sauce (I think they call it rosa?). Anyway, I usually ask the chef to be generous when using olive oil and garlic while making the pasta. (I just ate a pizza, I’m really not happy describing food).

The service is excellent and friendly. The atmosphere is nice, not great. The place is small and chances are everybodys gonna hear your conversations (but that happens everywhere in Kuwait coz Kuwaitis have it in their blood to eavesdrop, so it’s ok).

Score: 4 Out of 5.

Al Dente is located in Movenpick Hotel in Shuwaikh’s Free trade zone, near Villa Moda. Phone # 4610033.

Just thought I’d share my current homemade wallpaper with you guys, I think it looks nice as a desktop picture. :) Click on the pic above for the bigger version.
