We had lunch at Brasserie de l’etoile. It’s a new french restaurant in the Avenues mall, phase II. The place looked and felt french, even the music played was perfecting the french mood.
However, The mood they were trying to set did not help my dish one bit. My dish was good, going by the Kuwaiti standards, but if I were to judge this restaurant and compare it to real french ones, I’d say they need to take a closer look at some of their dishes and concentrate on getting the flavors right.
Chicken caesar salad
Grilled eggplant salad
Calamari. Very good.
My steak
I ordered a ribeye steak with morels sauce and a side of fries and pomme gratin. The steak’s sauce, the morels sauce, one of the best sauces you’ll ever going to taste (if you were ever in france, you’ve got to try it), was butchered. The morels mushrooms (one of the more expensive kinds of mushroom) was gone to waste.. it tasted awful. And don’t get me started with the fries, it was a joke.
Grilled Hamour
croque monsieur (toast, cheese and turkey)
Baked Salmon with sautéed vegetables
The rest of the orders, and the rest of my family seemed pleased with their dishes. Mom loved her dish, the baked salmon with sautéed veggies (I took a bite and thought it was very good too). By the end Mom was praising the restaurant.
I’m a bit harsh (my opinion was based solely on my main dish) coz I was expecting a real french lunch, the atmosphere they’ve set implied so, but to come so close to a french experience in Kuwait, and then have the food be so so.. I couldn’t help but get disappointed.
the food looks delicious. need to try it out i guess
fish was overcooked, the rest of it was pretty darn ok.
I went and unfortunately had the same experience…I found myself far from satisfied. I did end up going again though because il ga3da 7ilwa… but I wish the food matched the location and ambiance.
It reminds me alot of the restaurants in paris so they set the mood right as for the food, hopefully it will be better since they have just opened.
I WAS THERE lol 7ashni sho3oor yahal shwy bas ma3alaih
I don’t know why but I’m not really feeling this place!
you have to try their Soufflé !
Brasserie de l’etoile’s opening in Koweit : the Greek tragedy of all is that the food here cannot be cooked in French red. What a shame ! No wonder the food doesn’t taste straight out of Boulevard Hausmann.
For some reason, the picture of the food reminds me of airplane food..
yousif i went to this place ..it was nice maybe it was your main course that put u off . I took the baby chicken with gravy it was very nice and for sweet i had the floating islands that was outstanding too . the dishes are a bit small if compared to the other places but that is basically “Frrench” .
Give the place another chance 🙂
I just had lunnch amd I thought it was a load of crap.
Im sorry but none of those pictures look appetizing. When I think French I think steak and fries mustard, thick sauces and stews, rumps of beef and chicken with red sauce, etc.
The calamari playe looks so tiny….like 8 rings or so. I’ll still try it but doesnt look that impressive.
Another thing if you going to do a bistro it should be in an outside area or walkway type of place – its bizarre that this is inside the mall.
i agree with Chantelle – part of what gives the French sauces their flavor is prohibited in Kuwait, even though the alcohol cooks off in the preparation . . .I thought some of the dishes LOOK good!
eleventhst: i was thinking the exact same thing!!
The food’s just okay…. Though I like their breakfast .. .. esp the location more than the food…give’s Le PQ and D&D a run for its money ( though I must say PQ’s new menu and is fabulous !) I’ve met the Chef – he’s french Chef Raymond and he does have some great tricks up his sleeve , he did some dishes off the menu and was very amicable, though I still feel the foods lacking something!
totally agree. went there with my family and none of us was satisfied with her/his order (except my father who likes everything). it was barely OK ..
I just visited there this weekend and loved it. The Executive Chef is French. We had frois gras, green salad, and mushroom in pastry. It was all excellent. Maybe it has improved since some of these comments. I thought it was outstanding.
