I have been encountering some idiots on the roads lately, well we all have, but there is a new kind of idiots. Let me explain!
You know when you’re in a hurry and driving on the left lane and you’ve got a car in front of you that just won’t move to the right? Well, I don’t like to flash the cars in front of me so I get close, then too close. As a last resort I turn up the headlights once or twice so they could wake up and move to the right. Anyway, nowadays there is a new kind of angry drivers on the scene so beware! They won’t move to the right until they see a road camera coming up, and that’s when they speed up a bit, making you do the same, then they move to the right and hit their breaks so you end up getting caught by the camera! Are they on dope? They would better learn about DUI in Orlando, FL. If you want a secure and fast car Autozin offers the best dealership never seen before.
It happened to me more than once now, and thankfully I was always aware that there was a camera ahead. But still, what kind of a sick person would do such a thing!? And why are they so offended by the thought of giving way that they had to have some sort of a revenge?!
Unfortunately there are some DUI driver that prefer to ‘play tricks’ when driving. If you happen to be one of them and are charged with DUI offense, visit AttorneyLehiUtah.com for criminal defense lawyer.
okh!
I’ve always had the sweet ones who slow down when approaching cameras, but this is just sick!
nice blog 😉
el so’al ele yi6ra7 nafsa ohwa sh7aga kila mista3yel?
even you noticed that ? @@
i’ve seen them once or twice now ,,,
the thing i did is to give them the ultimate flash !!
i do it by closing all my light’s so his eyes relax ,, and then BAAAM .. 5 or 6 fast flash’s of a (blue-snow) xenon light’s ,,, making him go blind !
i have more than 6 light’s ,,, all the same power some color ,,, making a (little ) sun behind him !
that’s how i do it !
no one could stand in front of me ,, not even a Bus !!
LOOOOOOOL hahahaha yousef chena you are getting owned by dump people ??? la ana 3ayal etha mawakharaw 3aneey o bedait aseeb telgane i speed up on the emergency lane o aroo7 jedama 3alshan the small pieces of rocks knocking his front window wakes him up 😛
*** This only happens when khalas i cant control my anger
OK, let’s get this straight… I’m not one of those people who do what you explained above, but I do understand their feelings.
Most of the time when I drive at the left lane I drive at the street’s speed limit + 5-10 Km/H. The drivers who usually come from behind and wants to pass have a speed that is usually much more than the street’s speed limit. In essence, what they’re doing is illegal and they don’t have the right to do it. Moreover, they put other drivers lives in danger due to the high speed and reckless driving (even if you were not of this kind, many reckless people are).
In essence, when I’m in a hurry, I drive normally behind the car in front of me.. If the car doesn’t move a bit.. then I try to overcome it from the adjacent lane without harming or annoying the car in front of me. On the other hand, If I was not in a hurry, then I usually take the middle lanes trying to avoid those people who believe they are in a race track!
Sometimes, when somebody flashes behind me.. I speed up until he disappears from my rear mirror to prove to him that It’s not a matter of who has the fastest car.. but it’s a matter of giving respect to other drivers on the road and following the law which in this case I clearly violated it 🙂
Also, many speeding drivers are doing it for reasons other than being hurry. Some of them are doing it just for the fun of it, because they had a fight or faced a problem, or because they are basicly ‘sick’.
Finally, Kuwait is a small country so even if you were in a hurry and you were speeding, then you would probably save 5 minutes at most which isn’t worth risking other peoples’ lives or annoying them.
P.S. I’m against people who drive below the speed limit in a left lane in case they were able to speed more (no traffic)
@Bo9ale7:
In case you damaged the other driver’s car, then you are obligated to compensate him in this life or in the Judgment day. It’s your choice, so choose carefully.
WoW I agree with some of what you said and I applaud you for being a very calm driver in Kuwait. Yet, I have this problem with people deciding what I should and shouldn’t be doing.. I mean, I always had to argue with Mishary that you shouldn’t be the one deciding whether the drivers on the street should be going beyond speed limits or not. If they want to speed then thats their choice, they might wanna pay more tickets.. or something. But in any case, you or anyone else for that matter should always give way to who is in a hurry, for all you know the driver could have a a pregnant woman about to give birth in his car… 🙂
Anyway, am just like you, I don’t go much over the speed limit, and most of the time the left laners are just slow people who think they own the road and can use the left lane all the time, even when they’re driving well below the limit speed.
I have to agree with Yousef on this more then WoW, sometimes there situations which the drivers are unaware off, I don’t think the other driver has the right to decide for one person. And there is another simpler law stating, if you are going slower then the car behind you then yield to let them pass, that is the reason for the left lane. If I don’t feel like speeding I stay in the middle lane and enjoy the drive.
But sometimes road rage does take over!
Lets take it from a different point of view…
why would you come closer in order for the person to move??!!!!????????? i hate that! i really do! now thats reckless driving.
If a person is going 120/130 kilo on then left yoba he/she driving the right speed limit, you want to go more surf around another place.
Flash once or twice if he/she doesn’t move, u move!
Some people get close… v close that i think i will get hit, dont tell me thats a way to tell the driver to move? Either he/she goes 260 kilo/hour or the person doesn’t know how to drive? ur better than that.
So next time your late for work, don’t take it on the driver in front of you… just get up earlier next time ;).
Ok I am a fan of your blog, but I have to say YOU are the idiot not US.
If you want us to move out of the way, then use the flash and give us time and space to get out of your way. Trust me, we will get out of your way.
Sticking your bumper to ours is not only rude and annoying, it is DANGEROUS!
Ilwa7id yidawdih o uhwa iysooog. And frankly a speeding ticket is the least thing you deserve.
Let us know with a flash (recognized worldwide as the polite and safe form of ‘please get out of my way’) and trust me we will. I for one always get out of the way when somebody flashes.
Endanger my life, and trust me your going to stay behind my car for as long as it takes to get your annoyance level, waaaaay above mine 😀
Oh and btw the camera thing works both ways, cause one time an idiot did that bumper thing and there were cars to my right, so for me to get out of his idiot way (btw it could have been you or one of the people who agree with you) I had to speed up to change lanes, and right at THAT moment, I got caught by a camera!
So for him to go about 5km faster, I had to pay God knows how much! So unfair!
In the rest of the world, people flash there lights to let others go. But oh no not in Kuwait. Where do you have to go in such a hurry that you’ve got to sit behind a car and flash your lights like an idiot? Its rude, inconsiderate and completely unneccessary.
Getting to close to other cars while driving istailgating, in the rest of the world you would get points on your license for dangerous driving. But yet again, oh no not in Kuwait. And you wonder why there are so many accidents in Kuwait????
I was doing 130 on the 30 the other day, empty road but because someone else decided he fancied doing 200, he sat on my arse and contiously flashed their lights. I’m sorry but i’m not moving for you, the road is empty go round me, so as the mature person he was. He went round me, ended up in front of me and then slammed on his brakes. Really mature and really dangerous.
Flashing headlights are annoying and although I use them sometimes I feel a little bad about it. Like I’m annoying the person in front of me. Anyway, I wanted to mention they mean different things in different countries. I had to learn about that and make sure I absorb it fully when I came back to Kuwait. I learned how to drive first when I was in the US and there it means the exact opposite, ya3ni they’re allowing you to pass for example if there’s a turn you need to go.
Oh so your whole complaint is about the fact that you nearly run people off the road by getting too close to them and that they do something about it?
bo9ale7 wow! shal3onf!! lol that’s just dangerous! and bainy o bainik ma7na nag9een 7oba 😛
ROUDAN I know where you work.. don’t tempt me get violent with you! 😛
MiYaFuSHi Yalla sibaa7 khair! “You’re the idiot, not us” is what I get to start my morning with? Fine. I’m just gonna let that slip because I really enjoy your comments and getting your input here.
This post was not about people who drive too slow for my taste but rather it’s about what I view as a new trend: vengeful driving, ie someone PURPOSEFULLY waits until he/she gets near a camera to get out of your way so that you’ll get caught. Now those people really are idiots. If you refer to my title I think it makes it clear what this post is about.
As for why I resort to driving close to the car ahead of me instead of flashing it first it’s because personally I find that it is less abrasive than blinding them with my headlights. This is how I’d feel if someone wanted me to get out the way. I would much rather have them come close to me and then I’d get out of the way rather than having them flash me. But bear in mind that never in my life have I gotten close to someone’s bumper in these situations.
Komsomol no that’s not my complaint. How did you get that out of my post? coz running people off the road is wrong and dangerous 😛 (refer to my reply to above)
1001Nights I agree. I think using the headlights is rude, thats why I don’t do that.. out of politeness. And when I said get close then too close, I didn’t mean dangerously close coz afterall I care for my life more than to risk it with some bad drivers.
About that headlight thingy. It doesn’t mean “get out of my way” in most countries, that is just incorrect. It means either ‘Thanks’ or ‘Go ahead’ in most parts of the world, and thats why I think it’s rude to use them as a way to get the cars out of my way. (even though it means so in Kuwait. But, yeah I’m not gonna sink to Kuwait’s driving’s standards).
Bo9ale7 you come off sounding like an incredible douche bag. ITs you and your ilk that deserve to be Rodney King’d by cops and arrested but too bad our Police force in Kuwait are a bunch of underqualified high school dropouts who do the same thing. Good to see the majority of comments are evolved…Yousef im dissappointed in you too 😛
yeah well I don’t think you uderstood the post 😛
@Yousef:
“But, yeah I’m not gonna sink to Kuwait’s driving’s standards”
I believe you already did. In the US or UK if you drive in any lane, no one will bother you by either coming close to you or flashing behind you. They will just leave you drive peacefully.
“I always had to argue with Mishary that you shouldn’t be the one deciding whether the drivers on the street should be going beyond speed limits or not.”
Then who does? it’s a clear violation of the law! are you suggesting that it’s OK to violate rules and regulations of the country you live in?
“If they want to speed then thats their choice, they might wanna pay more tickets.. or something.”
No it’s not their choice. They are endangering other people’s lives and violating the rules.
“But in any case, you or anyone else for that matter should always give way to who is in a hurry, for all you know the driver could have a a pregnant woman about to give birth in his car.
Let’s not fool ourselves. Many speeding people, if not the majorty, doesn’t have an emergency and they are doing so for other reasons. And as some commenters suggested, give yourself enough time to reach your destination by getting out earlier.
@Yousef: “yeah well I don’t think you uderstood the post”
Look at the cause of the issue rather than making accusations that the left laners revenge is an idiotic thing to do. If you sink to Kuwait’s driving’s standards, then you should accept the consequences.
@Yousef: “yeah well I don’t think you uderstood the post”
Look at the cause of the issue rather than making false accusations that the left laners revenge is an idiotic thing to do. If you sink to Kuwait’s driving’s standards, then you should accept the consequences.
Moon
k lets the discussion begin!
1st point:
I believe you already did. In the US or UK if you drive in any lane, no one will bother you by either coming close to you or flashing behind you. They will just leave you drive peacefully.
No I did not. Reason: I drove in europe, and what they do over there is they come close, they don’t use their headlights, they just come closer so you take notice and move out of their way. And I do that in Kuwait coz using headlights is rude in my book and I won’t sink to that level.
2nd point
Then who does? it’s a clear violation of the law! are you suggesting that it’s OK to violate rules and regulations of the country you live in?
I also always argue with Mishary that when someone is coming from behind me, I should get out of their way. I’m not in the street to act as a judge nor a policeman.. That is not my job nor yours and no one should wait for our opinions. That is just the reality we live in, love or hate it, its always going to be this way.
3rd point
No it’s not their choice. They are endangering other people’s lives and violating the rules.
Endangering people’s lives and violating the rules is WRONG, lets not get some people thinkning that I endorse such behavior (coz obviously there is some confusion here). BUT again YOU cannot dictate what is right and what is wrong, and you cannot decide who should be speeding and who shouldn’t. We have laws governing us all, and we have people with JOBS to apply these laws.
To point #4
Let’s not fool ourselves. Many speeding people, if not the majorty, doesn’t have an emergency and they are doing so for other reasons. And as some commenters suggested, give yourself enough time to reach your destination by getting out earlier.
People have emergencies, whether you like to believe it or not.
And why are you implying that I speed because I’m late? coz in most cases the driver in front of me is driving below the speed limit.. thats why I want to pass him/her. in bold coz most of you guys are not getting this point.
🙂
Yousef I agree with what you wrote its happening on a daily basis now. Grab a chair and sit on the bridge of the (temperature tower) you’ll really enjoy the show!
Bo9ale7, drinking green tea would calm you down. Start your’ day with one and keep a backup in the car just incase. Try to manage your’ temper wela ra7 etshayeb ibser3a 🙂
@Yousef:
“BUT again YOU cannot dictate what is right and what is wrong, and you cannot decide who should be speeding and who shouldn’t.”
“you or anyone else for that matter should always give way to who is in a hurry”
According to the above quotes, YOU cannot dictate what is right and what is wrong, and you cannot decide that I should always give way to who is in a hurry 😉
coz in most cases the driver in front of me is driving below the speed limit.. thats why I want to pass him/her
Well you seem to attract drivers who drive below speed limit cause for me in most cases people come behind me while I’m driving at the speed limit or a little bit more.
i didn’t read all the comment’s ,, but i want to say one thing !
if you are in a high mood and (mmzj),, and want to drive 120 (F ‘en speed limit) ,, go in the middle ,,, or F*** off when some one flash you ,,, and BTW ,, those 5 minutes saved a life ,,, just last week ,, my uncle would died if i didn’t drive 260 without stopping to the hospital !!
and i don’t flash people when i see that the other lanes are crowded and he can’t move over !
i used to have a sticker in my car bumper saying ( the closer you get , the slower i go ) XD
but removed it !
Yousef, I’m disappointed with this post. If someone is following the speed law, don’t ask them to go over it just because you want to drive faster. If you would like to do so, find a way to do it without making others go faster as well. I am totally with WoW (World of Warcraft?) on this one.
I join WOW and all the others who think this post is absurd and ridiculous.
Idiots demand you budge from the left lane even if you’re going 120kmh and the lane next to you is already packed with other cars moving as fast as you. Where the hell do you want me to go? Fly?
I’d happily oblige and budge only if it does not endanger myself (the street is light in traffic and the lane next to me has a wide open clearing and enough time for me to signal my intention to change lanes). That my friend is called civilized driving.
This post could not get me any more pissed than these days now that I have brought to the world a little 4 month old baby. I often imagine what would happen to his little fragile body if some idiot caused an accident because he was 5 minutes late!! WHATEVER you say does not justify this post and please you must stop defending it and admit something is seriously wrong with what you are saying.
ha ha i just did that yesterday i hate flashers
Moon lol I like your attention to the details.. but you’ve missed something. The left lane is not there for us to hogg and stick to all the way through to our destination, and these are not my rules 😉 these are all well known rules and laws.. and in some countries the left lane is used ONLY to pass the cars and then get back to the middle lane. ya3ny I saw it with my own eyes and drove in countries where people use the left lane for 10-30 secs then leave it right after passing the cars in front of them.
Note: this isn’t what the post was about tara.. are you aware?
sinful eye’s IMO you have every right to pass whoever on the left lane by being polite and not scare the drivers to death. How is your uncle now?
Kha How can you be disappointed with this post when it’s about left laners revenge? it was dedicated solely to this new revenge tactic they use.. how is that something disappointing?? coz whatever was said in the comments section was me getting sidetracked from my original point. I stand by my beliefs that no one should HOGG the left lane, AND that no one should be driven out of their lanes by force. I thought using headlights is rude for God’s sake! Do you think I’d do something worse if I found THAT rude?
But then again this post wasn’t about that tara. (please email me!!)
Katuka Listen. I didn’t say people should terrorize left laners to get them out of their lane. I think people should be polite on the street and make other drivers stop hogging the left lane without endangering their lives. This post was never meant to encourage mad drivers. I wrote the post above and even on a comment above that I think flashing people with my headlights is rude, so why do you think I would find it ok to terrorize them? (read that last sentence again)
But dear Katuka, I wrote this to point out the new revenge tactic used by some of the left lane hoggers (making you go fast so the camera could get you while they move to the right at the last moment). That is what the post was about. Have you read the post? I bet you didn’t get what I was trying to say then, coz your comment had nothing to do with my post.
And I totally agree with what you said here:
“I’d happily oblige and budge only if it does not endanger myself (the street is light in traffic and the lane next to me has a wide open clearing and enough time for me to signal my intention to change lanes). That my friend is called civilized driving.”
I know what civilized driving is 🙂 Would you be kind enough to point out where in my post did I come off not so civilized?
plasic Ok. so YOU are the one meant by this post! finally! 🙂 That’s why I don’t flash people, I think it’s rude and annoying. But hey, I hate your type, sorry, but I really do 😛
Q80 Sunflower Hi there. Sorry your comment was in the spam box and I just got home and discovered it. Interesting! you think the revenge tactic is something that should be defended.. hmm.. Well I know that people are sometimes frustrated from all the bad drivers out there, but that just doesn’t give you the right to punish someone for wanting to pass you, now does it?
@Yousef:
From what I read you seem to be the kind of person who tries not to be rude nor dangerous to other drivers when trying to overcome them. My point is the following: I was trying to describe to you how the majority of left laners who tries to overcome other people are rude, dangerous, and disrespectful to other drivers on the road. That is why some people hate them to such an extent that they would behave you on what you call a ‘sick’ behavior. We need to look at the cause of the problem, not the effects of it.
For Gods sake, when I’m driving at rush hour coming back from my work and then I find a car behind me that is dangerously close to me trying to move me away from the left lane… What should I do? where should I go? does he/she really thinks that he/she will be able to overcome all cars in front of me? I’m not referring to you by this kind of ‘sick’ behavior. All I’m trying to say is try to understand those people’s feelings and what lead them to behave like that. It’s not because of you, it’s because of the rude and idiot people out there in the road… and don’t expect those people to differentiate between the way you try to tell them to move out from the lane and the way the crazy people do within just a few seconds.
That is what lead us to talk about all the issues discussed above by other commenters in order to tangle the cause of the problem rather than pointing to the symptoms.
Note: I’m not saying that it is OK to act as a left lane revenger. All I’m saying is that I understand the reason behind them behaving like that… End of discussion (at least for me ;))
I almost never move out of the way–I drive at 110km/h in a 100km/h speed limit zone. If someone in front of me is going 100, guess what I do? I slow down to that speed and I leave space in front of me and I deal with it.
The other day I didn’t move for a guy in a mustang, so he fking overtook me using the hard shoulder!
After about 5 minutes and no cars in front of him, guess how far ahead of me he was? 150 metres.
99.9% of the time the person flashing isn’t actually going to go any faster than me, they just have a complex about not having any cars in front of them.
If you drive so close to the car in front of you you are a complete and utter idiot, you should leave adequate braking distance whenever you are driving.
And I’m sorry, but flashing your high beam in no way is polite. I make an effort to be courteous on the road. You don’t ask to go in front of someone else, it is rude. It is nothing more than queue jumping, which is the most despicable thing anyone can do.
And no, when I’m driving in the left lane, I am not asleep, I can see you approaching–I choose not to move out of the way. We’re all using the roads, we all have somewhere to go, you’re no more important than anyone else and you can keep a sane speed, or change lanes and take care of your own problem.
At night time however I have to move because the high beam is annoying as crap. In the day time, I can barely see the high beam so I really can’t say that it annoys me.
And to all the people suggesting that someone might be in a rush: If you were really in a hurry you’d just go in another lane.
Moon I’m glad we’re agreeing on something. We’ll just leave it at that then 🙂
samuraisam
“And to all the people suggesting that someone might be in a rush: If you were really in a hurry you’d just go in another lane.”
Are you kidding me?! It’s extremely dangerous to use the right lanes to pass other cars! using the left lane when someone is in a hurry is the safest thing to do! I hope you were kidding when you said that, coz if you weren’t… then you got some serious road safety learning to do.
“99.9% of the time the person flashing isn’t actually going to go any faster than me, they just have a complex about not having any cars in front of them.”
I do agree that some people got this complex.. but in all honesty, you come off as the one with the complex this time, since you don’t let other people pass you. Like you’ve GOT to be on the left lane and not leave, as if your life is depending on it 😛
“when I’m driving in the left lane, I am not asleep, I can see you approaching–I choose not to move out of the way.”
You talked about being polite.. so tell me this is hogging the left lane polite? don’t you know the left lane is for cars wanting to pass other cars in most “polite” countries?
yeah i’ve noticed that!! happened to me a couple of times they would wait for the camera!!! but ma3alai just give em a smile, wait, and zoom away 😀
o btw yousef i dont know why everyone is attacking you lately ;s bs i have to admit this is adding more flava to your blog ;p its good seeing you interact with the readers; followers or haters
“so tell me this is hogging the left lane polite? ”
How am I hogging the lane? I am driving just like everyone else–I use the left lane because I’m going somewhere on the road. I’m not talking about a 2 lane road here, I’m talking about a 6 lane highway, the signs are directing me to use the lane that I am in. If I’m going to exit at the next interchange, I prepare in advance and change lanes. Most of the people who flash etc are also the ones that need to cut across sixteen lanes of highway traffic to make their exits. Even on 2 lane roads in Dubai, doing 80 in a 70 zone I get people flashing me, that is completely dangerous and ridiculous. There is absolutely no consideration for anyone else.
Does that mean when you’re using the depositing ATM at the bank and taking too long that I have some right to start pointing a laser beam into your eye?
Or does that mean when the disabled space is free at the mall, I should go and park there because I’m more important than anyone else? or should I go and double park behind someone else because they’re hogging the parking space and by putting my hazard lights on it automatically makes everything ok?
There is such a thing as common decency, it’s a road, you can’t write your own rules for driving, you’re just as important as everyone else on the road.
“It’s extremely dangerous to use the right lanes to pass other cars!”
It’s extremely dangerous to drive above the speed limit, it’s extremely dangerous to tailgate at such speeds, and its extremely dangerous to blind the person in front of you with 40,000w xenon high-beams. If you want to do all of those things, then you can endanger your life 1% more and go in another lane and leave me out of it.
I don’t understand why I have to let people pass me, I am already going at the speed limit or above it. I am doing what I am supposed to do, I am going from point A to point B and not causing a problem for anyone else, you are coming up behind me flashing the crap out of me, endangering my life by tailgating me and you are causing a problem, I don’t want to be involved, go tell someone else about how important your schedule is and how it really matters that you get that extra 2 km/h on your journey so you get there 3 and a half seconds earlier.
As I’ve said I consider myself a courteous driver, if someone offers you a place in front of a queue, that is them being polite. If you go around asking people to push in front of them, it is RUDE.
Would you stop comparing using the left lane to queuing at a bank or a grocery? Those 2 are nothing alilke. You know why? Because left lanes are for cars who want to pass other cars. This is a well know fact/rule across the world. Do you know this rule? Do you agree with it? I’m interested in knowing your opinion concerning this rule.
And when someone goes, as you said, to right lanes and endanger themselves by 1%, they’re endangering others too. Coz they’re not alone on the roads as you know.
This is exactly why we have so many accidents in Kuwait. Yousef, I don’t think what you are doing is right. There is no reason whatsoever that makes you want to go over the speed limit (unless you have a person in the car you have to get to a hospital or something, seriously). almost everyone who claims they are in a hurry, they truly aren’t. If you want to get to wherever you want to go in time, then just leave your house earlier.
This is exactly why we have horrific accidents. People try to intimidate others and force their ways of driving on others. I thought people were more open-minded than this. I read the comments and I read from someone that he would speed really fast to show the person behind him that it’s not about who has the fastest car. Seriously? That’s what you want to do. I can only imagine what would happen when you do that. The driver behind you will get crazier and attempt crazy ways to pass you. Just move over to the right lane and let that crazy guy be. If he wants to die, then let him do so alone.
kw23 I don’t go over the speed limit by much and most of the time I abide by the rules.
“I read the comments and I read from someone that he would speed really fast to show the person behind him that it’s not about who has the fastest car. Seriously? That’s what you want to do. I can only imagine what would happen when you do that. The driver behind you will get crazier and attempt crazy ways to pass you. Just move over to the right lane and let that crazy guy be”
AGREED!! people should just stop being so stubborn and should let the people on a hurry use the left lane to pass them coz this is what all the other countries (elmo7tarameen) are doing.
Yousef:
I can only hope that one day you get to see what driving is like in Karachi, then you’ll see what it is like when everyone is always in a hurry, and when everyone makes their own rules–end product: no one gets anywhere quickly.
samuraisam You did not answer my question :p
Yousef: my point is: if you want to get to wherever you are going on time, then just leave earlier. That way you won’t have to speed 🙂
“Because left lanes are for cars who want to pass other cars. This is a well know fact/rule across the world. Do you know this rule? Do you agree with it? I’m interested in knowing your opinion concerning this rule”
Flashing your lights and tailgating form no part of any ‘well known rule’, nor do exceeding the speed limit and trying to overtake people for no good reason.
There is also another rule: Unnecessary lane change. You have no reason to attempt overtaking a car which is already going at the speed limit.
samuraisam
Yet again you did not answer my question. I don’t know why you are refusing to answer my question.
But you just said
“Flashing your lights and tailgating form no part of any ‘well known rule’”
I agree. But then again people don’t get into fist fights out of no where, it’s all gradual, right? and in this case, drivers tend to allow other cars behind them to pass once they see them coming from far away.. but What did you have to say about that? You said:
“I can see you approaching–I choose not to move out of the way”
I have nothing more to say to you 🙂
To benefit everyone in this discussion, I felt a need to define common or proper road use (As defined in the USA vehicular code):
The left most lane is called a passing lane because it is meant to be used for passing slow traffic on the middle lane, However, there are two conditions to using the passing lane:
1- You shouldn’t use it for traveling, meaning you can’t zip through that lane flashing and tailgating your way to your destination (Like the majority of road users in Kuwait do). You are also obliged to move back to the middle lane once you clear slower moving traffic.
2- The other condition is you can’t drive in the passing lane above the LEGAL speed UNLESS it was the NORMAL speed. Meaning if you are driving 140kmh in the 120kmh left lane and you suddenly reach a queue of slower traffic driving 130kmh you have no right to budge them off the road becasue they (and you) are now driving at the NORMAL speed of that lane.

Katuka Thanks! this quote is good:
“The United States Uniform Vehicle Code states:
Upon all roadways any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic …
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s website on “Keep Right Laws” points out that:
This law refers to the “normal” speed of traffic, not the “legal” speed of traffic. The 60 MPH driver in a 55 MPH zone where everybody else is going 65 MPH must move right…””
Sums up everything! So guys when you’re on the PASSING lane an someone comes from behind you.. scooch over a bit. Ofcourse assuming you’re not boxed in because of either cars on your left or in front of you.
yes but this is not what happens in Kuwait. The 150kmh car forces you to move over even if you’re going 140kmh along with the 10 cars in front of you and with the slow neighboring boxing you in. Very dangerous situation.
This quote is also from the same article
“A driver hoping to pass a slow motorist in the “fast lane” is stuck in an awkward situation. One strategy is to signal a lane change toward the center median. Another is to flash headlights. A third, which sacrifices safety, is to drive very close to the “fast lane” driver’s bumper (this is known as tailgating). In Germany it is common to signal a lane change toward the center of the road, as if there where another lane to the left of the “fast lane”.
You admit you tailgate cars to force them off. It sacrifices safety and you should stop doing that. The civilized way is to flash a light once, and then signal left and hopefully the driver in front of you move out of good manner and in respect to the courtesy you showed.
@kwt23:
“I read the comments and I read from someone that he would speed really fast to show the person behind him that it’s not about who has the fastest car.”
“Sometimes, when somebody flashes behind me.. I speed up until he disappears from my rear mirror to prove to him that It’s not a matter of who has the fastest car.. but it’s a matter of giving respect to other drivers on the road and following the law which in this case I clearly violated it”
Although I wrote the above statement, I admit this is a wrong thing to do. I did it once or twice at the early days of my driving but I discourage anyone to do it because it is both illegal and could get the crazy person behind you crazier. Thank you kwt23 for pointing to this fact 🙂
Katuka I agree it’s dangerous, but I wouldn’t go as far as saying that I get dangerously close to them to “force them” out of my way. I’m just not that aggressive as a driver. But yeah ofcourse it’s dangerous and shouldn’t be done.
