Can you imagine that the US in 1973 was thinking of taking over the oil fields in Kuwait, Saudi and Abudhabi?

Very interesting read:

“The United States government seriously contemplated using military force to seize oil fields in the Middle East during the Arab oil embargo 30 years ago, according to a declassified British government document made public on Thursday.

The top-secret document says that President Richard M. Nixon was prepared to act more aggressively than previously thought to secure America’s oil supply if the embargo, imposed by Arab nations in retaliation for America’s support for Israel in the 1973 Middle East war, did not end. In fact, the embargo was lifted in March 1974.

The declassified British memorandum said the United States considered launching airborne troops to seize oil fields in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi, but only as a ”last resort.””

“As outlined in the memorandum, military action would be relatively straightforward: two brigades were estimated to be needed to seize the Saudi oil fields and one each for Kuwait and Abu Dhabi. In the case of Abu Dhabi, the Americans might ask for British military cooperation.

The greatest threat would arise in Kuwait, the document said, ”where the Iraqis, with Soviet backing, might be tempted to intervene.”

I got this via email so I don’t know how true it is and when they’ll start using them in Kuwait:

“There is a new road tracking system on Dubai Roads. These are not just nicer looking radar cameras – they are a lot more lethal, so be careful.

First thing is that these cameras do not flash. They can take photos in complete darkness through ultra-light sensors, so even if it does not flash, it could have caught you. They also automatically read your number plate from the picture taken.

Now, comes the thing that catches most people. These cameras are continuous photo-taking cameras and they will take your photo regardless if you have been speeding or not. Then the next camera in 3-5 kms again does the same. Now, instead of checking your speed through advanced radars, these cameras are very simple and all they do is calculate how fast you traveled between the 2 cameras. If you arrived at the next camera faster than 120 km/h (or whatever the speed limit is) then you get fined.”

Thanks Tariq.

Interesting read from CNN’s Christiane Amanpour’s documentary. Here is an excerpt:

1980s: Iraq

CNN found that intervention is often weighed against political and economic costs.

Declassified U.S. government documents show that while Saddam Hussein was gassing Iraqi Kurds, the U.S. opposed punishing Iraq with a trade embargo because it was cultivating Iraq as an ally against Iran and as a market for U.S. farm exports.

According to Peter Galbraith, then an idealistic Senate staffer determined to stop Hussein from committing genocide, the Reagan administration “got carried away with their own propaganda. They began to believe that Saddam Hussein could be a reliable partner.”

NY post reports:

Michael Jackson has become a Muslim – and changed his name to Mikaeel.

The skint superstar, 50, donned Islamic garb to pledge allegiance to the Koran in a ceremony at a pal’s mansion in Los Angeles, The Sun can reveal.

Jacko sat on the floor wearing a tiny hat after an Imam was summoned to officiate – days before the singer is due to appear at London’s High Court where he is being sued by an Arab sheik.

A source told last night how Jacko, brought up as a Jehovah’s Witness, decided to convert as he used a studio at the home of his chum to record a new album.

The star – whose hits include The Way You Make Me Feel – was spotted looking “a bit down” by a producer and a songwriter who had both embraced Islam.

Thanks Hamad.

Starbucks’ Christmas special is back. I tried it last year for the first time and I really liked it.. oh and I just love the thing they sprinkle on top. Extra sprinkles for me. Always extra sprinkles for me! 😀

We’ve completed our first year in the blogosphere. It’s been an extraordinary year for Me and Mishary. We’d love to thank you all for the love and support.

We wanted to make some changes to the theme for this occasion, but that proved to be impossible since me and Mishary we both suck at designs and graphics.. But thanks to Ahmad, we managed to do a tiny beautiful change. We changed the background color to black. I thought that was a nice facelift (If you can’t see it, then you should hold the shift key and click refresh). I hope you all like it, coz to be honest, thats the only change you’re going to see for a loong time 😀

We’ve also added Ad spaces on the right. If you want to place your ad in one of the boxes feel free to contact us.

Again, thank you guys for this past amazing year. We appreciate all the help we’ve been getting from all of you guys. We really do.

The branch between AlFanar mall and AlBustan mall has car service now. Rejoice!

Weather forecast by Mishaal Al Roomi:

Clouds are gradually starting to increase today with light to moderate NW winds. During this evening, the skies will turn overcast with rain arriving and affecting most areas. Rain intensity could be heavy and thundery at times. Please take all necessary pre-cautions of this upcoming scenario.

Tomorrow, Monday, the weather will be gloomy and dark with rain that at times will be heavy and persistent associated with thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts are expected to be high with local flooding possible. It will be a very unstable day.

Rainfall amounts will be above average. The chance of rain will continue to early Thursday with the worst of the rainfall between Monday and Tuesday

Please take caution while driving because it will be hazerdous. All outdoor activities should be cancelled. Of course, any sea activity is strictly not advised.

Excessive rain over the wet season can often make it difficult for water to drain away. To save your landscaped garden from erosion, it is important to improve the drainage problems in your yard by getting help from french drain landscaping Glen Ellyn contractors.

Temperatures will decline to leave the weather cold.

If you’re looking for a job or a new one, I think you should have a look there. Today is the last day for the job fair. I went the day before yesterday and submitted my CV to almost all of the companies there. I know I should’ve posted this earlier but I forgot. It’s in Alraya ballroom near Alraya mall and Marriott Courtyard The New York EDITION.

Wish me luck.

Thanks loco.
