I was just talking to an OSN sales person over the phone and he told me that they’ll send each OSN subscriber a decoder (satellite receiver with no slot for a card). He said that it’s a gift so you could enjoy the channels in HD format.

Can this decoder affect tv piracy?

He enrolled in business school aged 96 and graduated this year, aged 99.

“Education has no end,” he told CNN. “As far as your brain can work alright, your eyes can see alright, and your ears can hear alright, if you go to school you can learn.”

I first ate at Abou Al Sid restaurant (مطعم أبو السيد) in Sharm AlSeikh last year and it was the first time I experience a tasty egyptian cooking. Usually egyptian food (no offense) is all about quantity and no quality, Greasy food without a real identity (I’ve been to cairo a couple of times and I assure you I tried the best places. They all sucked. Rubber tastes better than their best dishes). But my perception changed when I tried ABou AL Sid in Sharm AlSheikh. I loved the food! and the restaurant’s ambience and overall feel was unique too Read the rest of this entry »

The filters in your cigarettes may contain pig’s blood. Thats what I just read on the net, that Researches have confirmed pig haemoglobin, which is a blood protein, have been found in the filters. It’s being used in the filters to somehow reduce harmful chemicals from entering your lungs.

So far only one tobacco manufacturer in Greece confirmed the use of pig haemoglobin. Researchers have been demanding more transparency in what goes into making a cigarette, coz it may be a big deal for certain groups of people like Muslims, Jews and Vegetarians, but tobacco manufacturers aren’t too eager to share their secrets “that’s our business and a trade secret.”

I just read in Alwatan newspapers that they’re building bedrooms for the transit passengers in Kuwait’s airport. The article mentioned that transit passengers won’t face any problems if their trip got delayed or had to wait for long hours, the bedrooms will be available for nominal prices.

AlWatan paper used a picture of a sleep box for the article, which I think is much cooler if true!

YO! Sushi has just opened in 360° mall. I was there today and noticed that it was more than half full. Good thing considering it’s other branch in Marina mall wasn’t doing so good the last time I checked (is that one still open?)

We didn’t eat there, we ate at Wagamama instead, but the waiter told us that they will offer a delivery option soon, in less than a month, and that they will deliver to neighboring areas at first. I asked about Mishref and he said yes “Mishref, Bayan, Jabriya, Qurtuba, Surra..etc.”

I’m not a fan of Japanese food but I know that I have to try this one out, regardless of how weird I’d feel picking food I didn’t order outta of that revolving bar.

In case God forbid any of you encounter a problem with a stuck accelerator pedal, this is how to solve the problem. Step on the breaks and turn the vehicle into neutral. If that didn’t work then turn off the engine.

New low fare airliner just like Jazeera airways and Arabiya. The above screen shot is of the first available weekend from Kuwait to Dubai and back.

I just took a quick look at their website and learned that:

  1. you get to take one hand bag weighing 10kg for free, but if you have a bag to check in, you pay 40Dhs (3.2KD) for the first bag, and a 100Dhs (7.9kd) for each additional bag. I think this airliner would be good for weekends and quick getaways where you don’t need much clothes.
  2. You can choose a seat by paying an extra 5Dhs (1.5kd).
  3. You can get extra leg room by paying an extra 100Dhs (7.9kd).

You get the idea. You pay for every extra and by having that option you could get the lowest fares possible.

Avatar producer, Jon Landau told MTV that director James Cameron is going to write an avatar prequel. The prequel won’t necessarily be transformed into a movie, but rather be a full fledged novel that’ll go into each character’s history in depth. In a way, James Cameron is trying to lay a foundation for the movie. Or maybe a foundation for sequels to come?

Jon Landau interview:

“Jim is going to write a novel himself, not a novelization – and there is a distinction. A novelization basically retells the story of the movie. Jim wants to write a novel that is a big, epic story that fills in a lot of things. [We] won’t have time to do [these stories] in the movie, or maybe in sequels, so the novel will give a foundation for the world. It would be something that would lead up to telling the story of the movie, but it would go into much more depth about all the stories that we didn’t have time to deal with – like the schoolhouse and Sigourney [Weaver’s character] teaching at the schoolhouse; Jake on Earth and his backstory and how he came here; [the death of] Tommy, Jake’s brother; and Colonel Quaritch, how he ended up there and all that.  I don’t think Jim has ever written a novel before, but his first step of writing a script is often in a novella format, so this is just expanding that, and I think that he’ll be very adept at it.”

P.S. I haven’t seen the movie yet.

I was just told that the Bvlgari shop in AlNassar tower was fully robbed yesterday at night. My cousin is saying that he’s hearing that the robbers cleaned the whole shop. Police are there now investgating the robbery and lifting the finger prints.

Rumor alert: The tower’s security were asleep when the robbery took place.

I was in Al Jabriya earlier today and happened to pass by the new Early Bird branch. I saw the owner, Bianca, outside and she told me the opening is on Monday and that it’ll have the same working hours as the one in Fahaheel; Monday to Saturday from 5am to 3pm and off on sundays.

It’s in Al Jabriyah near Champion’s Gym. Here is their location on map.

My friend was at harrods yesterday and he took the picture above. It is of apples with heart shaped birthmarks on them for Valentines.

Harrods have commissioned farmers in france to grow these specially customized apples to bear heart shaped imprints on them. The apples will be sold for ₤3 each, and all the proceeds will be donated to a children hospital.

Are you wondering how did they do it? Are you thinking genetic studies and huge amount of money spent? I was thinking the same thing, but I was way off, coz all they did was, the french farmers that is, they placed a heart shaped sticker on the apples during cultivation.

Ok, so yesterday there was this woman attending an art class at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in newyork, and while she was near one of the paintings, it happened to be Picasso’s “The Actor” painting, she fell on it and caused a 6 inch tear to the painting. “The Actor” is worth an estimated 130 Million. The woman went to court and was sentenced to 70 years in jail.

Nah! that last part is a joke 😛 But imagine if it was you who fell and tore the painting. I’d die on the spot.

Last week’s sentence was carried out and he was executed this morning.

“Ali Hassan al-Majid was notorious for the gassing of more than 5,000 Kurds in 1988 and other brutal campaigns”

“Majid first ordered the use of chemical weapons – mustard gas, sarin and VX – in 1987, culminating in the attack on Halabja. By the end of the Kurdish campaign in 1988 about 4,000 villages had been destroyed, an estimated 180,000 Kurds killed and about 1.5 million deported. He was nicknamed Chemical Ali by Iraqi Kurds, who also called him the Butcher of Kurdistan” – Guardian
