25-years-worth-of-tetris

Tetris celebrated it’s 25th years anniversary this week. What do you think of this game? I think it was brilliant and was destined to be a classic.

I remember the first time I played tetris was sometime in the winter of 1990, yep Kuwait was still invaded and we were in france visiting my aunt. I remember I got to play with my aunt’s gameboy and trying tetris for the first time. I was soooo taken away and just couldn’t believe how my luck sucked at the time coz I only discovered this game the day we were leaving france.

I then got another glimpse at this incredible game when we went to Bahrain, in ramadan of 1991, Kuwait was just freed by then. I remember one Kuwaiti girl on our block had the gameboy and we all played together so I was always asking her to play with her gameboy.

I remember I was jumping with joy after visiting my aunt in Kuwait for the first time right after the invasion, coz she had just bought me one from france! I couldn’t believe it lol! I remember that I got to boss my little brother around in order to let him play with my gameboy… well, I bossed him around till my parent got him later the game gear.

Update:

I realized that this was my second mention of the invasion time and it’s also of a happy memory, and that this could lead people who don’t know how old I am or even foreigners to believe that we and Kuwaitis in general weren’t caring enough about their country back then, and I could be misrepresenting Kuwaitis in general (some of Kuwait haters used to say that we were indifferent to that fact that our country was at war). So, just in case, I’d like to say that I was 7-8 years old back then, and thats why all of my memories of that time are happy ones. Sorry, I just had to mention that πŸ™‚

Engagdet posted yesterday that they got a hold of some leaked pictures that suggest the release of a newer and slimmer PS3. The news isn’t confirmed yet. They did the same with the PS2 and people, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this one turns out to be true and people fall head over heels over it too.

The ‘Great Kuwait SunsetΒ Challenge‘ has been launched a few days ago by our fellow blogger, intlxpatr. If you have good sunset photos and you wanna participate in this challenge, you can do so by sending her an email and she’ll post your pictures and we’re all gonna vote, somehow, and she’ll decide which photographer has the best shots.

I’ve learned that photoshopping an image is considered cheating, and I also learned that I don’t have a single good sunset photo! except the one above, but that is photoshopped to death, so..

I will try and take some pictures of sunsets. You do so too!

For more information on the challenge or if you have a question, go to intlxpatr.

Basically it depends on how good you are at memorizing stuff and based on your memorization they calculat your age. Just remember the positions too each number and then click each one from the smallest to the highest.

I created a facebook account ages ago, I tried it and didn’t feel all the hype and I left it at that until my brother introduced me to ‘Guess the sketch’. The game is addictive. You all take turns to sketch a word while others guess it. Simple and addictive. Now I want to get a digital pen just to be more efficient when its my turn to sketch πŸ˜›

I took my Nintendo Wii to AlRehab in Hawally to solve the previously mentioned problem. I asked around till someone suggested trying a shop called The Japanese Corner “Alrukn alyabany.” The guy there said I need to upgrade “a6awwer” the console so it could play NTSC, PAL and DVDRs. He asked for 20kds for the chip he’s going to install, and we ended up agreeing on 18kd. 2 hours later the chip was installed.

The problem is partially solved now, Mario galaxy worked but Mario Kart didn’t. I’m going back to the shop to see what could be done.

Thanks for the tip guys.

I bought some Wii games from europe and I’m trying to play them on my Japanese Wii and they’re not working. Its saying that its unable to read the disc. I read over the net that my Wii console is an NTSC one and the games I have bought are PAL. Is there any way to still be able to play the games? any software or modification?

When I was looking for a gift for my nephew I really had to go everywhere! There is nothing much you can buy for 1 year old boy if you don’t want to buy him clothes.

I tried many places, I went to Khalid bin ilwaleed street, I remember I enjoyed going there when I was young, but I found nothing! I also went to Waleed (ma7al waleed) shop and I think that shop needs some serious revamp.

I went everywhere, including this Fantasy world shop but couldn’t really find a toy that made me go “THIS IS THE TOY!” they all looked ehh and so so.

One thing caught my eye and stayed with me was this little train, and although it is not made for a one year old to play with it alone, but atleast He could enjoy it with a parent’s help until he’s a bit older.

If you’re looking for toys, I think this place is one of the best in Kuwait. They have many things for different age groups. There are even things fro grownups, like the pool and board games. auto freaks may also enjoy Fantasy World’s collection of miniature cars. I personally liked how they had some thing for everyone. Ofcourse you’re always better off buying online, but if you’re buying a heavy gift, like the one i bought, then you wouldn’t want to pay the gift’s worth on shipping.

The one I went to, which I think is the biggest branch, is located in Shuwaikh, on Alghazali street, across the street from Electrozan and near the fourth ring road. They have other branches in Soug Sharg & AlBustan Mall.

This whole thing made me realize how fortunate we were to grow up in a time when we could always find the prefect toy in Kids β€˜r’ Us in Salmiya. *1..2..3.. group sigh*
