The elections period is finally over and I just want to say Congrats to those who lost and hard luck for those who won in this parliamentary election, and With that being said, and everything going back to normal (hopefully) in Kuwait, what is there to talk or write about other than a good old restaurant review πŸ˜€

Shabestan In Crown Plaza hotel is the restaurant for me whenever I’m in a mood for a nice iranian meal.

The restaurant is never too busy and you can always go there without prior reservation. The atmosphere is very warm, real and authentic (if you can overlook the multinational staff), I like that the place has many little seating areas, giving it a cozy feel. One of the things that first caught my attention was their attention to details in everything from the furniture, the paintings on the wall, the carpets.. down to their chinaware.

The food. Now the food obviously is whats keeping me loyal and coming back this restaurant. Surprisingly I’m not a big fan of traditional iranian food. Kebabs, Humus and iranian bread are not among the things I like to eat when I’m in a restaurant, But I go there for their Halim Bathenjan (a puree of aubergine, lamb, fried onion strips and traditional kashk) for starters & my favorite Baghalah Polo-Ba-Mahicheh (leg of lamb cooked in its own juices over a slow fire for hours and seasoned with spices and broad beans with my choice of rice) for the main course. The only thing I wish they’d work on is there stews. I love me some Ghormeh Sabzi, but theirs are not really special. Other than that, there food is to die for.

The staff is friendly and very efficient. when you first sit there, they offer complimentary Iranian greens with salty white cheese and freshly baked iranian bread (baked infront of you).

The restaurant, in my opinion, is one of the most consistent restaurants I’ve been to, which is a great quality in a restaurant if you ask me. I never go there more than once a month, and when I’m there, I expect a perfect meal, and they never fail to meet my expectations.

They get a 4.5 out of 5 from me.

My friend told me that its best to go vote either first thing in the morning or around lunch time. Thats when its supposed to be the least crowded. Thats what he said.. we’ll see. πŸ™‚

When are you going to vote? it ends today you know.. πŸ˜›

Update:

Apparently my friend told the rest of Kuwait about the perfect timing too. Half the population of Kuwait was standing in my line alone, which coincidently was the slowest moving line of them all. The people behind me (2 old men) cracking jokes and counting every second did not help at all! I tried to drift away in thoughts so that time passes a bit faster but they were always there to pull me back with their endless annoying meaningless chatter!

Guy1: you know its taking 5 minute for each person?
Guy2: 10 minutes.
Guy1: yeah about 10.
Guy2: and we have about… hmm 1,2,3…. *counts* approximately 40 in front of us. thats 400 minutes!
Guy1: oh wow! 400 minutes are like.. hmm… 4 hours!!!

At that point I just wanted to get up and leave, But thank God I managed somehow to block them away for the remaining time I was there. 2 hours and 10 minutes later I was done.

Hopefully some of the people I voted for win.

Allah yer7umah. My condolences to his family.

Brief History

Sheikh Saad was born in 1930, He’s the eldest son of the former emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Abdullah al-Salim al-Sabah. He was an ambitious man, After studying in Kuwait he went on to continue his education in Hendon Police Academy in England. Sheikh Saad served as the President of the Police and Public Service Department, also served as the Minister of Interior and minister of defense. On January 31, 1978 he gained the title of Crown Prince. Between February 1978 and July 2003, he also served as prime minister of Kuwait, after which that role was given to Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He also briefly held the position of Military Governor of Kuwait from 1991 to 1992.

Sheikh Saad played a major role in liberating Kuwait from Saddam’s regime. He refused to compromise with any of Iraq’s ministers, and with the head of the PLO, Yasir Arafat. He announced that he will discuss nothing but liberating Kuwait from the Iraqi regime.

He died today, the 13th of May, at age 78, at around 7pm. Allah yer7umah.

Just got sms telling that he passed away, any one can confirm it?

UPDATE:

Om FasoOoL among others have said that its just a rumor.

Edited By Yousef

I called someone who works there and he said up to now its just a rumor and if anything happens He’ll inform me. Abdulkareem, may he recover soon, has been sick for a while now and been in the hospital in the ICU for over a week. He’s suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease. its a chronic illness that leads to respiratory failure, which basically is a lung failure.

Alah yer7omah.

Yesterday I went to visit the dentist from top dental implant companies. I was really expecting the worst since I had gotten accustomed to my habitual services at Drescher & Cohen Dentists. But before going into that I just want to say something OT. The security didn’t let me in at first and told me the Mall is for families only. He didn’t let me in till I told him repeatedly that I have doctor’s appointment. Β And I was very angry when I saw a girl walking outta the mall all by herself with no husband and no parents! Now let me ask you this, since when a girl all by herself is considered a family? and when its a guy he’s considered what? a threat!? Its a stupid rule enforced by stupid people, agreed on by even stupider people leading ultimately to the stupidification of society in general.

He let me in eventually.

I went in, there was a bunch of girls there with burqas sitting in a cafe looking and smiling at the guys near them. other girls with burqas swaying around the mall followed with admiring gazes. another crowd near the cafe with a girl who just passed out. I think her friends thought she suddenly fell asleep, coz all they did was tap her face frantically and call her name, then they pulled her from her hands lol and dragged her out of people’s way. sorry, but it was hilarious.

Anyway. I went to the clinic and waited for less than 10 minutes. But while I was waiting I read about the dental history from Mark Civin DDS. The doctor was very friendly and almost a human. As I also managed to check the article ” Do My Wisdom Teeth Need To Be Removed? – Dentist in Idaho Falls, ID | Oxford Dental Care ” and got mentally ready, I told him that I want my 4 wisdom teeth taken out and a real thorough check up. He took a look in and then said “the wisdom teeth can wait. there are other teeth i’m more concerned about.” yalahwy!

Since there were lots of things that needed attention, we decided to start fixin’ the teeth based on priority. He started with the fillings. and did a real good job so far. He said we need a very concentrated schedule for the next 3 weeks. πŸ˜€ It is good I can request appointment online at https://thedentalspecialtycenter.com/ and they confirm it shortly.

Things that surprised me (keep in mind that it was over 10 years since my last dentist encounter in Franklin):

– for the x rays all he did was stick a piece of rubber in my mouth and point a hose-like object at my cheek and =click= we were done! I remember a simpler times when we had to go to the other room and wear bullet proof vests in order to do the x rays.

-When he said the word anesthesia. something in my mind went “SAY SOMETHING!” and I found myself smiling at the doctor and blabbering some words i don’t understand. The doctor then assured me that i won’t feel a thing. He took a Q-tip, put some pink gel on it and rubbed it near my tooth, a minute later that place near my tooth was numb, so when he injected me with that awfully big needle, I didn’t feel a thing. no pain whatsoever.

-A big hole was dug in my tooth and a big filling was put in and I didn’t feel a thing and I was able to drink and eat afterwards with no troubles at all. (see previous post πŸ˜› ) Mashallah.

Overall, I was really glad that dentistry have advanced lol I was expecting a real pain and a very bleak experience. But they were very gentle and use the best water flosser, that made my teeth and gums feel amazing. But then again, I think I shouldn’t be all joyous and celebratory, I haven’t really gotten my wisdom teeth out which I will be seeing the dentist at Kakar Dental Group to get my wisdom teeth out. The dentist also advised toΒ correct bite alignment. I will have to think about this and meanwhile I decided to learn more about this issue. Read here if you also consider orthodontic treatment.

C’est la vie wrote me an email and raised an interesting issue for those of you who have to pay for loan installments every month.

She said that whenever there is an overtime or a bonus to the salary credited to your bank account before your actual salary is due (even the new 120kd which was credited a week before the salary), the bank starts the process of deducting the loans’ installments believing its your real monthly salary. Leaving you without money until the real salary is due and when the real salary is credited to your account, they deduct the rest of the loan’s installment. What most people fail to realize is that when they do that, the system thinks you were late for the due payment and they then charge you a tiny fee, when in fact you’re not late for the installment, it just, they were a week early. But it’s not the case when you receiveΒ myinstantoffer.com code 2019.

She’s talking based on her experience with NBK but she also said that a lot of other banks do this. She believes that a lot of people aren’t aware of this little glitch in the system. “people don’t notice coz its a small amount of money, but if enough people where charged, the amount would be huge.”

Thank you C’est la vie for sharing this with us.

In my melcha days i can briefly say that i went to 99% of Kuwait’s restaurants, one of the discovered restaurant was Tang Chao, I found out about it from my GPS, its basically a Chinese restaurant (By the way i wasn’t a big fan of chinese cuisine).

But after marriage everything changed upside down! Now im so addicted to Chinese restaurants!

Yesterday me, the wifey and INM decided to have our dinner there, So we went there and had our usuals πŸ˜›

This is for the crunch πŸ˜›

Our favorite dish (Shrimp on toast).

Chicken spring rolls.

Our second favorite dish is chicken sweet & sour.

Garlic fried rice.

As shown above its located in Belajat street in the Holiday Inn Hotel.

Finally it scores a 4/5 due to taste plus reasonable prices. If ur a peacock restaurant fan i think u must try this and compare the taste vs price and reset your fanhood πŸ˜›

This time I won’t translate the whole article, I’ll just post the actual article in its original form and will offer just a summary, a very brief summary, coz i don’t want to leave some of you guys totally out.

Mom basically wrote an article discussing the recent renaming of one of our favorite area names in Kuwait, Al Messila, to a name that belongs to a late member of the royal family. She explains how its not appropriate and that there are people whom are benefiting from this by doing favors to get closer to the big guys. And lastly, she’s suggesting that a street named after that person or a high school would’ve been much more appropriate. Thats the whole idea in short.

I’ve talked to many people and all of them, me included, agreed that no one we know will ever stop using the old beautiful name in favor of the new name. We just think its not right.

I wrote a post around 4 months ago discussing this same issue, read it here. Many other bloggers have wrote about this and I liked this blog’s post the most.

Today ANM went to our co-op and found that there is a car-washing service called ProntoWash. I think its a pretty good idea to just park your car, go get some things done and in around 30-40 minutes your car can look shinny and clean!

They also offer:

  • Premium hand wash detailing.
  • Hand Wax & Polishing.
  • Upholstery cleaning & Carpet shampooing.
  • Vinyl & Leather conditioning.
  • A/C Sanitization.
  • Advance Technology: Biodegradable Products.

For more info you can call them 806006

Thanks ANM
