We went to lebanon this past weekend. We had fun and did a lot of things in a very short period of time. It was quick but we needed such a getaway. Below you’ll see 20+ random pictures I took while I was there.

STTA 2

Someone I know had an accident the other day, He’s ok. And people have been repeating this one line a lot “The hell with the car, thank God he’s safe / 6iz bisayara ilmohim ohwa mafeeh shay”

I like having people say that, and I say that too sometimes, shows how much we care. But for argument’s sake, I’m gonna ask you this:

Don’t you think the person who is actually paying for the damages should be the only one using that phrase? And no one but that person should be allowed to say that?

Coz it doesn’t make sense, unless you’re going to say “Don’t worry about the car, I’m gonna buy you another one” only then you’re allowed to use that phrase, But till then, it should be restricted to parents and to whoever is actually paying.

PS: I use that phrase too (One of the many silly lines I hate to hear and use)

Salad Girls

I don’t mean to upset any of you, I’m just curious.

SOME girls, a lot of girls actually, go to restaurants and only order a salad. They eat half of it and then push the dish and say “I’m full / tshabe3 sala6at’hom”. It happens a lot and it’s kinda funny. Why go to a restaurant and just eat a salad? Are you dieting? Let’s assume you are indeed dieting.. Why eat half of it? Is it really that filling?

I asked a girl and she said that she knows the “type”, she said that some girls do that coz they feel more attractive acting this way. She also said that some girls do that and then order a real meal when they get to home.

My friend told me that his colleague has been married for many years, But to this day when she wants to eat freely at a restaurant she has to be with a friend, if she were ever with her husband she always settle for a salad and tiny bites here and there. She says she’s too self conscious to eat what her heart desires when her husband’s around

I know a lot of girls who are not like that though, so don’t feel like I’m generalizing here. I just don’t understand.

I was invited by friends the other day to go to Jaber stadium, to take pictures of the first match to take place there. Ofcourse it’s an unofficial match between friends, but nevertheless, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

The stadium is big and beautiful (I thought it would be bigger though), plenty of parking space and many gates to let the cars in, and many ticket kiosks scattered around the parking area. I think they did a good job avoiding future congestions.

Dahab is a town an hour away from Sharm AlSheikh, and it is world famous for having one of the best diving spots in the world. The Blue hole and the Canyon are one of the best spots I’ve ever been to. I shot this video above as I was entering the canyon. It was breathtaking!

taking pictures under water in Kuwait kubbar

I’m done with the Nitrox course and ready for Sharm AlSheikh, I also tried to use a camera underwater for the first time. I used my brothers digital camera and I have to say that I need a lot of practice! It’s extremely hard to take decent shots down there. You have no control over the distance between you and the thing you’re trying to shoot, no control over the lighting, and I can’t see the thing I’m shooting through the LCD screen! it’s pretty fuzzy down there.

Nitrox and Sharm Al Sheikh

I’ll be going to Sharm Al Sheikh on saturday for diving. I’ve never been there but heard some good stuff about it. We’re going to see some old sunken ships, wreck diving, and I’m taking my brother’s digital camera so I could take pictures for you guys.

Since it’s sharm, I’ll be needing more time under water than I usually need, but as you may or may not know, longer times need longer breaks in between the dives, not to mention the awful side effects normal tanks cause…

So, I’m back at Bubbles diving center and taking a Nitrox class. The term Nitrox refers to the air we use in the tank. Usually we use a normal tank which includes 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen. Nitrogen causes headaches and exhaustion and also reduces the dive’s time, but with this Nitrox, which is again a mix o gases, there is more oxygen (oxygen up to 32 or 36%), which reduces these unwanted side effects, and provide for longer dives and shorter breaks.

I just took the theory class today and will be diving this weekend using Nitrox for the first time.

Perfect-Laptop-Station_22

I like this. I think it’s compact, serves as many things and saves a lot of space. I was thinking of getting one, and did a quick customization; chose the colors and the size. The price that came up was KD130 sans shipping. It’s a bit costy but in my opinion it might go pretty nicely with the place.

Check out their website http://www.anthro.com/ppage.aspx?pmid=54

We chose the dead sea just because it was the only destination available at the time; all the other places we’re either fully booked or insanely expensive for a last minute decision. And the last time we’d been on a trip, we’d to buy AK 47 rifles from Palmetto State Armory and some other rifles in order to go on a hunt in a nearby woods. We didn’t know anything about the dead sea except for the pictures we saw at the last minute. We did not expect to love the trip this much!

when I lost my camera

As I was packing my stuff for last weekend’s trip, I wanted to make sure that I had my camera and all of my 3 batteries charged and ready. The problem was, I couldn’t find the camera! It was a new expensive one I’d bought off of the internet after having it reviewed on www.unclutterer.com. I looked everywhere in the house. I looked in my car, in my friend’s car and even asked my cousins whether they’ve it at the chalet this past weekend or not, but no, it was no where to be found. I was furious.. it was only hours before the flight! Don’t you hate it when things like that happen when you’re in a hurry?

My friend and I started thinking about the last places we’ve been to where I used the camera. We agreed that I last used it at The One restaurant at marina mall (for review purpose), and I called them, the lady was very helpful and genuinely concerned. They searched and she called later apologizing for not finding it.

Then we remembered that we went to Vavavoom right after having lunch at The One. I called Alshaya group at marina.. and BINGO! They found it and kept it safe for 2 weeks for someone to come and collect it! They were great and very nice too. I wouldn’t have thought that I could find a camera that was lost for 2 weeks.. This is very unlike me to be so careless.. especially that the bag contained the camera and all of my lenses.

Thanks Vavavoom!

Back from the dead sea

I’m back! Burned and peeling 😀

Seriously I’ve never been sun burned like this before.. it hurts! I bought an after sun cream and it’s not working. I can’t move and can’t turn, and it took me well over 5 minutes to wear a shirt!

Anyway, the trip was amazing, You’ve got to visit the dead sea, it’s beautiful and luxurious. Go to Kempinski, not to movenpick and not Mariott (saw them both and they don’t hold a candle next to Kempinski). Oh and You might wanna skip everything that is not IN the hotel.. Amman and the surrounding areas are kind of dull.

I’m going to write a big post with lots of pictures about the dead sea soon, so stay tuned.

The Dead Sea weekend

I’ll be going to Jordan this weekend. To the dead sea to be specific. We booked a hotel by the sea.

This is going to be my first visit to Jordan and my friend hasn’t been there either. We’re going there mainly for relaxation. The daily routine is killing us and we need a change. We’ll try and enjoy the sea, swimming, mud stuff, relaxation and massages… basically minimum muscle movements.

Then I think we’ll go discover other interesting places in Jordan. We’re looking for old souks, old streets.. you know get an idea about the culture and ofcourse the food.

You may ask why the dead sea? why Jordan? well.. Because the lovely people of Kuwait left us no other options! all the tickets are booked for this weekend! 😛

Received My New Smart Civil ID_11

I got it at the airport right after coming back from my trip, its really good in quality compared to the old one, and it looks good with the smart chip which Yousef’s wrote about it long back Here. And if you notice the GCC logo is attached on the back of the card itself.

Oh and by the way, if your current old ID is still valid, you can’t replace it with the new one due to the amount of people and the long queues.

you can find more details about it Here

How to handle unsatisfied customers

We went to AlHambra restaurant at the Sheraton the other day. We had a very bad experience over there. Something major went wrong with the dessert so we called the manager. He handled the problem in the worst way possible, I decided to leave the place and head back home, but my friend was so offended by the way he was treated that he stayed and took the problem to a higher level, then higher, till he reached the general manager.

At that point I was peacefully at home getting ready to sleep. My phone rang as I was getting into bed, and there was my friend telling me the following:

“I told the GM about the problem, and how they handled it, and he was more than great with me, he solved the problem, made feel better and just before leaving he insisted that I accept his offer. You won’t believe his offer.”

Me: What offer?

“He told me that you and your friend are invited to stay for 2 nights at one of the hotel’s suites, either at the 4 points or the Sheraton itself! We chose!”

Me: What!!?

“Even when I told him I’m not sure my friend would accept, he said that he is ready to pick the phone and call you and insist that you accept the offer! he asked for your phone number too”

We’re not decided whether we should accept this offer, but aside from that, isn’t that what all managers should do when a customer isn’t satisfied? I don’t mean every restaurant should get their unsatisfied customers a suite 😛 but just be professional about it, go that extra mile and show the people that you care and want to retain them as customers, for life!

They messed up big time, AlHambra and even the Sheraton’s image got shaken that day, but the way they ultimately handled the situation got me sucked right back in.

What do you say? Accept the offer or make a point by not accepting?

Finding Perfect Medium in Most unexpected place

I just came back from Mishref’s Applebees and I’m stuffed. I just ate the perfect Medium Fajita ever!

I don’t usually bother eating at apple bees let alone order a steak dish, But there was no other option (My friend refused to go anywhere outside Mishref). Anyway. When the waitress asked me how I like my steak, I didn’t know what to say, Asking for a medium steak at apple bees is like asking somone to find a humble Kuwaiti; it is impossible. But I thought I’d give it a try..

Glenda: How do you like it to be cooked?

Me: I want a medium steak, but that is impossible to achieve in Kuwait, no one in here serve the steak as requested, in fact, I’ve been to most of Kuwait’s steak-serving restaurants and none brought me a medium steak (Gaucho did a couple of times). Look, I dare you to bring me a medium fajita.

Glenda: *stares at me* Ok I’ll talk to the chef.

My friend at that moment told me “lo 6ag’ha ib bo6ol il ketchup wayid abrak”

But guess what? My speech did it’s magic and I was served the best fajita ever! You know those picture perfect sliced steaks? the dark from the inside then gray from the outside.. That was exactly what I was served and it tasted extremely good.

I would’ve never guessed that of all places, I’d find the perfect medium steak at Apple bees.

Done with Advance Diving Course

I went yesterday to my last diving class for the Advance course I’m taking at Bubbles. It was a night dive. We left the marina at 6:15 and returned sometime around 8:30. It was a 40 minutes dive, I didn’t consume much of my tank, which proved that I was getting better and better at controlling my breathing and that I’m not having a hard time navigating under water.

The night dive is more relaxed than the other dives, and it also kinda humbles you, especially when you get to see the sea creatures, the icky and the marvelous ones. The colors at night are more pronounced, less blue, more natural tones.

As I told you earlier, I’m now done with my advance diving course. I learned the following new things in this course:

1-Navigate using a compass.
2-Natural navigation: The use of compass or observing natural marks and counting steps, so I could dive and come back to my starting point all by myself.
3-Drift diving: as the name suggests; Diving in a drift, go with the flow, which is pretty basic.. and soothing!
4-Search and rescue: How to search for a lost item/person in the sea.
5-Deep diving: We dove to 35 meters under water.
6-And the night dive.

With all that done, I’m now unofficially an advanced diver till I get my license, which is soon 🙂

This diving thing got me hooked. I don’t know why but it feels like this is something that should’ve happened long time ago, I’m enjoying it a bit too much.

im addicted324

I bought this box of chewing gum a couple of weeks ago for my friends at the chalet, and I can’t get enough of them ever since. I finished the first batch and now I’m half way through the second one 😛

It also brings back so many memories!

I’ve always had this question in mind while traveling, and now since its travels time for most of us, please do tell how you deal with this issue:

While traveling, do you do your prayers as usual? Do you shorten and combine them (Jam3 o Qaser? Or does it depend on how long your stay abroad is?

To me, I’ve asked around a lot and came up with my own collective answer: I combine and shorten the prayers if the trip is for less than 10 days. If its more, I just combine them.

full-review-bubbles-diving-center-1

I finished my beginner course on saturday and the only thing left is to have the written exam to get my diving license for beginners. After finishing my course I looked up full face snorkel mask reviews, to find the best snorkel mask for myself.

Lets begin with the review. This time I’ll divide the review to parts and talk about each part separately. There is going to be 5 parts: Safety, Professionalism, Atmosphere, Fun and overall satisfaction.

how-do-you-deal-with-backstabbers-at-work

I had my first backstab experience at work today. At first I was kind of shocked, but then that subsided and I’m left with disgust. I don’t feel betrayed, coz the backstabber had no grounds for their accusation, but I’m just amazed at some people’s ability to do such things.. Froid needs to study this person.

Have you ever been backstabbed at work? How did you deal with it?
