This has got to be the coolest vending machine I’ve seen so far. I don’t think it’d do great in Kuwait but I think it’d be fun to have it here.

It seems that the UAE based telecommunication company, Etisalat, messed up big time. They sent out a message to all of it’s 100,000 Blackberry subscribers urging them to update their mobile with the latest Etisalat patch: “Etisalat network upgrade for BlackBerry service. Please download to ensure continuous service quality.”

The application slowed mobiles’ performances and drained their batteries. After a closer look at the patch they found out that it contains an application that allow the company to intercept and get a copy of each email and sms sent. This option is turned off by default, However, it could be turned out remotely if they wanted to.

“he said that once installed, it potentially gives Etisalat the power to view all emails and text messages sent from the BlackBerry.”

“I don’t think it’s been designed for a large scale deployment,” he said. “They have released it as an upgrade across all UAE BlackBerry handsets, all of which have tried to phone home to this one registration server at the same time, and that has effectively brought the server to its knees. When the BlackBerry cannot register itself, it tries again and this causes the battery drain.” – Nigel Gourlay

I Just got sms from 9K2HN telling me that Skype.com is no longer blocked by Fasttelco. Yet, I’ve checked with Zain, since it’s my ISP, and its still blocked. Can you fill us in if it’s working on other ISPs?

Word has it that a new Blackberry storm is going to be released. Mishary bought the older one, it didn’t last much with him, it sucked and he bought the new curve. I’ve head that the screen isn’t all that and although it’s a touch screen, it doesn’t function when it’s “touched” but has to be “clicked” to function.. Anyway.. The Storm 2 is said to be released in a month or 2 tops, so don’t go out and buy the older one just yet, no matter how alluring the touch screen may sound 😛

According to BlackBerryOS forum moderator the BlackBerry Storm 2 could be out sooner than expected. Which is expected to be this June.

Engagdet posted yesterday that they got a hold of some leaked pictures that suggest the release of a newer and slimmer PS3. The news isn’t confirmed yet. They did the same with the PS2 and people, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this one turns out to be true and people fall head over heels over it too.

You’ve seen this thing, the jetlev flyer, before on email forwards or on tv, right? It was finally made available for people to buy last month. People now can buy this thing and start flying all over Kuwait’s beaches this summer 😛

Jetlev is available in 2 models:

1. The one with 155 HP costs € 99,000. Around KD 38,000.
2. The one with 215 HP costs € 119,000. Around KD 46,000.

With these prices could the jetlev flyer be the next big summer activity in Kuwait? To use this machine you need 10 hours of training first, but I’m totally picturing this machine being rented in Kuwait for say, KD20 for a 10 minutes ride, with less than 10 seconds worth of training.

I passed by Zain’s Mohalab branch today to get the new adapter, which comes along with an ego once you subscribe with their service for a year.

The differences between the new adapter and the router are:

1. The adapter doesn’t need a dedicated sim card to be wifi spot, instead I can plug in the ego to create a wireless network.
2. It works in the car, using the cigarette lighter socket (car plug included in the box).
3. Much smaller than the router.

Ok, some of you might already know how to use their Bluetooth to receive files, I didn’t, till yesterday, so this post might help some of you out. Here we go:

If you’re receiving a file through your BB’s bluetooth, then you should go to the Media gallery in your BB’s menu, press the option button, then choose ‘receive using bluetooth’ from the menu. Let someone send you a file and Voila!

The file should be found in it’s respective folder; images in the pictures folder, ringtones in the music folder.. and so on.

Zain Create have an offer for limited time, if you register before the 1st of april you’ll get KD 5.100 (thats 5 kds and a 100 fils) of credit to download songs off their music store. I went ahead an registered, it was an easy process and I got the promotional 5KDs credited to my Zain Create account. You should all register, there is no need to miss out on this one time deal.

Anyway, I looked around the site, then wanted to download something to try the service out. I went to the top 10 list and found that Fadhel Shaker’s new album is in the #1 spot (Not just that, He is #1 in the top songs, albums, and artists list!) so I went with Fadhel’s new album. I bought the album (10 tracks, each track costs 300fils. You can’t buy the whole album as of now, but it says in the FAQs section that the option will be available soon. It better be). I bought the album and am now listening to 2 of the songs.. the download rate is between 10kbps and 35kbps (I’m using ego 7.2).

I’m listening to Jowa Al Roh right now and the quality is superb. the song is 4:27 long, in MP3 format, 6.2MB, 192 Kbit/s. Obviously good quality. and comes with an ID3 tag with the picture of the album’s cover.

The whole site is very well designed and is easy to use. I love it.. but there is room for improvement. Hear me out if you have a say in this project:

1- I need to be able to tell which song is already downloaded. Like for example as I was downloading Fadhel’s songs, I lost track. There needs to be a sign or a label on the song which has been downloaded so i don’t download it again by mistake.

2- The lack of Mac software is not acceptable.

3- The song sampling is very fast, which I appreciate a lot, but sometimes the play button doesn’t work and I have to refresh a few times before I can start sampling the song.

4- I should be able to download the whole album as a package, coz it was a hassle downloading each track separately. I know it’s coming.. but still, it should be available from the start imo.

5- It says that once I download a song, I should receive an sms immediately, and yet, I downloaded 10 songs, wrote this post and still not a single sms.

I think the service is very good and that Zain did a great job with this whole thing.

Pretty useful feature if you ask me and I sure did need it more than once.
