I’m proud of my friend. So proud actually and would like to share with you this post (taken from Blog:

Translation:

Basically this person from العرزالــــــه ordered from a restaurant 3 months ago and found a bug in their veggies. He took a photo of the bug and called the restaurant up to complain to their Labenese manager who in turn took the complaint in and apologized for the mistake. He kept the picture to himself and didn’t use it. 3 months later, a couple of days ago, العرزالــــــه guy found out that there was a seminar about quality control held by Mr Eissa Al-Eissa at that same restaurant, so he sent the bug photo to the restaurant and asked them to be sure not to repeat that same mistake. A while later he got a phone call from the restaurant’s owner, Humood AlRubaian. The owner was polite and inquired about the whole incident, he was surprised about the Lebanese manager bit, since Humood never had a lebanese for a manager working for Oishii Sushi, but nevertheless he apologized, deeply, and offered compensation.

العرزالــــــه guy was wondering about the lebanese manager bit, so he went to his friends to asked them about the restaurant’s name, only to find out that there was a mix up, and that the restaurant with the Bug incident wasn’t Oishii Sushi, but another one that had a name that sounded like to Oishii (maybe similar pronunciation or something).

He regretted what he’s done and called Humood again to clear the whole thing up, only to find him even more respectful and understanding, and finally the shock came when he found out that Humood has sent him free vouchers to try out Oishii Sushi.

I’m very proud of Humood, who is a friend of mine, and I can’t believe how well he reacted to this whole thing. I don’t think I would’ve reacted the same way.

How would you handle such a situation?

Thanks العرزالــــــه

Making Fruit Tartlets

We were at Marks & Spencers at 360 when we saw the tarlets cups and the ready made creme filling mix. It was a wednesday, the day before chalet day, and on that day everything looks appetizing and sounds like a good idea for the weekend. So we bought 2 packets of each, and my friend went to dean and deluca on thursday and got the fresh fruits from there. It was so simple and surprisingly.. Click to continue reading + pictures

A couple of years ago when I was in the US I noticed Johnny Rockets’s special dance, and it was interesting, i loved it, so once I got back to Kuwait i asked them about it, and their reply was ‘ because dancing isn’t allowed in Kuwait’. But yesterday INM went there and saw ‘the dance’ for the first time and asked them about it. Turned out they’ve just started doing it less than a month ago.

Thanks INM

The brand new Ekelni.com online food ordering service has finally launched. I just registered and I really liked the way they set the whole registering process. It was easy to navigate and the whole thing looks really good. They also launched an iPhone App to go along with it.

Check it out: Ekelni.com

Pinkberry is opening another branch at the Avenues mall, near ikea. This one’s going to be a mini branch, a smaller one with no seating area, it’ll be for takeaways only. This is good considering the huge line we see every time we pass by.

Not the normal cow milk this time they got the approval to ship camel’s milk to Europe.

“The UAE is intending to export camel milk to European markets next year, to be among the first suppliers of this product to the EU,” Abdullah Al Janan, executive director for Agricultural and Animal Affairs Department, Ministry of Environment and Water, told the Arabic daily Al Ittihad.”

Open Flame Kitchen Restaurant

Lots of restaurants open in Kuwait by the day, some succeed and some fail, but every once in awhile a new restaurant emerge and manage to reset the standards. B+F Open Flame Kitchen is one of those spectacular restaurants. Their floform countertops and extra high ceilings make for an expansive venue filled with music and food fit for the sacred. The ambience, the food, the service, the location.. are all top notch. Another great achievement by Slider Station & Burger Boutique’s owners. I think this one’s going to be huge!

I was invited to the soft opening along with my friends last week, we went there on time and got seated close to where all the magic happens. We were talking about their beautiful kitchen timber benchtops as we waited for the food. First impression was ‘this looks great’, the grill in the middle of the place along with the grand pizza oven, also in the middle, were just awesome. The new restaurant Pizzetta is finally open, but from 1pm to 5pm only, it’s kind of a soft opening until they have all their papers ready to officially launch the restaurant.

It’s on the same strip where Prime & Toast and Sliders Station are located, opposite the Seif Palace.

And this is how you do it when you’re out in the summer, have an egg, and hungry!

My friend owns a Sushi restaurant called OiShii Sushi, and they came up with a new addition to the Kuwaiti Sushi scene, The Sushi burger (pictured above), which wasn’t available in Kuwait until they included it in the menu. They made a big deal about it and most blogs wrote about the new sushi burger.

My friend was disappointed and surprised that a new restaurant would use that same idea just months after Oishii announced their sushi burger. He knows that it wasn’t an original idea, but he also knows that no one thought of having sushi burgers in Kuwait until they introduced it in there menu.

I can’t help but think of this saying “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” It means you’re good enough to have imitators!

I haven’t tried Oishii Sushi yet but I will soon. I’ve been hearing very good things about it from mutual friends.

Melenzane means eggplants in italian, and is also the name of the new italian restaurants that has recently opened in Kuwait in Albidaa area. I was told that one of owners cooked, and he cooks regularly at the Melanzane. Always a nice sign to have an restaurant owner who cooks at his place.

We went there today at 5pm for lunch. The interiors have an under-construction/industrial feel, with most of the furniture turned upside down (tables on the ceiling, drawers that open upside-down) basically, it had cool interiors. Also the place is tiny and cozy which made us feel like we’re in for a treat.

I had high hopes for the food because the restaurant gave that kind of an impression.. However, when it was time to dig in, the food turned out shockingly bland.

We had the following Click for the rest of the pictures and review

Before exiting the mall my friend and I were craving some frozen yogurt. It’s weird, I tried Pinkberry only once, and I didn’t find it that appealing, yet I can’t help but crave it most of the time. Anyway, my friend went for Pinkberry and I went for Ansam’s yogurt at Napkit.

Her choice of having watermelon flavored yogurt with pomegranates and rose water was intriguing. I thought I wouldn’t like it. I ended up loving it!

The tiny cup was bursting with flavors. The yogurt was very sweet and the pomegranates were fresh. The rose water, my only worry, worked well in that mix. I thought it was a nice twist. The whole thing was so sweet and very refreshing. Don’t miss it.

Good job Ansam!

Finally! A year and a half ago we posted about it, and now it’s almost here. One of of the best places in Paris to have a great croissant a great cafe au lait and a great overall experience is opening soon at 360. I hope we’re gonna get the same patisseries and paris’s overall quality, minus the attitude.

Note: Bahrain was supposed to have it open first. They had the ‘Ladurée opening soon’ sign up at ModaMall for a long time only to remove it and have Maki open in it’s place.

Thanks HBZ

I just came back from there, we were thinking of places to go for dinner but we were out of names. All 3 of us had our no-no restaurant, we contemplated: Maki, Chillis, The Noodle House, Don Mario’s, Oriental Cuisine, Ricardo, Fridays, Burger boutique, Sliders, Prime n Toast.. etc. But each and everyone of these was turned down by one of us. You’d think a dinner won’t be that complicated, but it is in our case.. always.

Just when we were thinking of bo6a6 o badiyan and falafil for dinner Kuwait Towers restaurant was mentioned. To make a long story short, after a little while we agreed to go there. The place in my opinion is amazing, the Kuwait Towers location and the view were just perfect. Everything else was crap. Pure Crap. Seriously.

It’s a buffet, an over priced buffet (coz the food sucked), with bad service, bad food, bad everything. I mean what a shame to have that magnificent location and view and to be placed at the top of a frickin landmark! and have it all go to waste with a well below average food?

Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a great restaurant up there? A 5 star place where people would reserve tables a month in advance to get a chance to taste an international chef’s dishes (daydreaming?). My friend was telling us while eating “If this was in Dubai we’d be hearing about world renowned chefs visiting the place every month and the place would probably be one of the IT places in town.”

A little piece of advice, DON’T think of going there, it was a big mistake that will never happen again. And if you ever had guests come to Kuwait, take them there in the afternoons, let them enjoy the panorama view, and then leave.

Made me regret not having a falafil for dinner. What a shame.

I dont know if you know about this already or not, but it seems like a good idea. You call them and they will come to your home and they build some small kiosk in the garden (pictures below) and start cooking and serving food from there.

Ansam is one of the few people in the blogosphere we trust for having a great taste in food, and she just had a dessert named after her! Yep, Napket just named a frozen yogurt after her. The yogurt is called Ansam’s Icy Yogurt, it’s a watermelon icy yogurt flavor topped with pomegranate and a sprinkle of rose water.

It’s available at Napket starting today. Give it a try and let her know what you think!

As the weather starts to heat up and wildlife begins to wake up, it’s best to be prepared for anything that may try to invade your home.

Nearly everyone and everything enjoys the spring weather, but there is one creature that can definitely ruin the experience.

The phrase “ants at a picnic” exists for a reason, but it turns out there are worse things — like ants in your home. Don’t worry; there are ways to keep these tiny creepy crawlies out of your home and yard.

Here are seven quick tips on how to get rid of ants from your kitchen to your yard.

don't let ants ruin your picnic

1. Track Them Down: Find Out Where They Are Coming From

If you do discover some tiny segmented invaders in your pantry or kitchen, the first thing you should do is find out how they got in. Check areas ants frequent or places they might appear.

Watch where they go and try to see where these little pests are coming from. Some common areas you will find ants include damp areas, like under sinks. Soft spongey areas beneath plumbing or leaks can be a draw. Check out these fuze bug reviews.

Check the framing and flooring, especially around windows, doors, and vents. Other areas besides kitchens ants frequent include attics, bathrooms, and walls. Do some recon and find out where these pests are coming in so you can seal up any possible openings.

2. Erase Ant Trails

Maybe you’ve only spotted one ant. Well, be wary; a single ant is usually sent out to scout. If you see one, don’t panic. However, if you do spot one invader, there are bound to be others.

Stop them from casing the place by shutting down the scout teams. Ants typically leave behind a trail for other ants to follow. To put an end to this, you’ll need to create a solution to erase it completely.

Creating a solution is simple. Mix one-part vinegar with three parts water and you have a safe, non-toxic way to erase ant trails.

3. Baits and Traps

Unfortunately, it may be too late to cut-off the scout team. Don’t worry; there are other methods you can use to stop them. One easy solution is using baits and traps.

These over-the-counter killers are usually sold in small containers that you can place just about anywhere. Since they are sealed, they are less dangerous than sprays. However, it’s a good idea to keep them out of reach from animals and children.

You can stick these little traps wherever you see activity:

  • Cabinets
  • Countertops
  • Dinks
  • Under the stove
  • Drains
  • Pipes and cables
  • Bathrooms
  • Medicine cabinets

If you are using traps, the ants will go inside and won’t come back out. If you are trying out the bait, resist the urge to squash. Ants will take the bait back to their colonies and destroy it from within. Either method can be effective in getting rid of these pests for good.

4. Keep Things Clean

When ants work their way inside your home, they are on the lookout for one thing: food. The best thing you can do is make sure they aren’t robbing your pantry blind. After meals and cooking, clean things as thoroughly as possible. Wipe counters and floors down, and wash dishes regularly.

Store your food, including pet food, in sealed containers. Try not to leave any uneaten food out and keep meals contained in one or two rooms. If you cut off their food source, the ants will look elsewhere for their free meals.

It will be opening soon in that area that got lots of new restaurants opening up (Al-mangaf or Al-Egailah).

Thanks Ali

Along with the little fireplace we built in the chalet we built an outdoor oven for our baking needs. The oven is a little one and wouldn’t fit large stuff as the oven opening is a little small. But hey we managed..

Once it was done, my cousin brought all the stuff needed to bake: Pizzas, Cheese Fateyer and Za3tar. The outcome was really good for first timers! The only problem I think (putting aside the so so pizza sauce and cheese) was the dough, it was perfect for little baked stuff, but not for the big ones (ya3ny 6a3amha kan mal mo3ajanat z’3ar shi’3il bait) that little thing should be solved as we continue our trials Look at the all the pictures
