We were all in the chalet when we discovered that my brother’s birthday was only hours away (we were reminded by the birthday boy himself by the way), so my friend and I went to Fhaiheel and got him a cake.
Simple adjustments can go a long way toward building a healthier eating pattern. Follow these tips to get the most out of foods and beverages while meeting your nutrient needs and reducing the risk of disease:
Enjoy a variety of foods from each food group to help reduce the risk of developing diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. Choose foods with little to no added sugar, saturated fats, and sodium.
To get enough protein throughout the day and maintain muscle, try adding seafood, dairy, or fortified soy products along with beans, peas, and lentils to your meals. Learn more about protein and other important nutrients.
Add sliced or chopped fruits and vegetables to meals and snacks. Look for pre-cut varieties if slicing and chopping are a challenge for you.
Try foods fortified with vitamin B12, such as some cereals, or talk to your doctor about taking a B12 supplement. Learn more about key vitamins and minerals.
Reduce sodium intake by seasoning foods with herbs and citrus such as lemon juice.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help stay hydrated and aid in the digestion of food and absorption of nutrients. Avoid sugary drinks.

Meal planning
Answering the question “what should I eat?” doesn’t need to leave you feeling baffled and frustrated. In fact, when you have the right information and motivation, you can feel good about making healthy choices. Use these tips to plan healthy and delicious meals:
Plan in advance. Meal planning takes the guesswork out of eating and can help ensure you eat a variety of nutritious foods throughout the day.
Find budget-friendly foods. Create a shopping list in advance to help stick to a budget and follow these SNAP-friendly recipes.
Consider preparation time. Some meals can be made in as little as five minutes. If you love cooking, or if you’re preparing a meal with or for friends or family, you may want to try something a little more challenging.
Keep calories in mind. The number of calories people need each day varies by individual. Always discuss your weight and fitness goals with your health care provider before making big changes. Read about calorie goals and healthy food swaps.
When you create your shopping list, don’t forget nutritious basics such as fresh fruits and vegetables and whole-grain bread. This sample shopping list (PDF, 108 KB) includes a variety of healthy foods you may want to have in your kitchen.
We were at Marks & Spencers at 360 when we saw the tarlets cups and the ready made creme filling mix. It was a wednesday, the day before chalet day, and on that day everything looks appetizing and sounds like a good idea for the weekend. So we bought 2 packets of each, and my friend went to dean and deluca on thursday and got the fresh fruits from there. It was so simple and surprisingly.. Click to continue reading + pictures
I just got my new iPhone 4! Mom and Dad bought it and sent it with Mishary and I just got it. I love it. I bought Angry Birds, although I finished the game on my friend’s iPhone, but I love it and had to have it.
I cancelled the Blackberry service today thinking I wouldn’t miss it but.. I do. I miss the bbm groups mostly, and the rumors, maybe some of the jokes too.
I’m gonna spend the next couple of days filling it up with lots of apps and games. Suggestions? Mishary?
Have you ever tried getting a taxi at Kuwait’s airport? Di you try getting one at 3am when there was a line that went from here —– to there? Well my friend and I did just that the other day when we came back from our little getaway this past weekend. It wasn’t a pleasant experience getting a taxi in Kuwait, not at all.
Bear with me, I have lots to say. And if I come off unorganized, just know that I didn’t get much sleep last night.
We arrived late because one of the airplane’s “felanges” had some problems and the pilot wasn’t sure if it was safe to take off so he had to return back from the runway to the parking area to have it checked.
We arrived around an hour late and were rushing out of the airport to look for a taxi. No friend no matter how good he is would pick us up at 3am, especially on a working day. The problem was we didn’t know where to look for taxis, we didn’t know where taxis normally line, or if there were taxis at this hour in Kuwait’s airport to begin with. To our surprise we found a Go Green Taxi’s waiting line (one that went from here to there). We waited inline and parked our bags next to us. The line was mainly made of expats, and only 3 Kuwaitis: Me, My friend, and one other man who couldn’t wrap his mind around the waiting-inline concept. No matter how many times I mentioned that there was line and he should stick to it (7ajjy ako 6aboor.. 9of bildor), he just kept standing in front of the line and waving at every taxi he sees. Thank God no taxi paid attention to him. (he looked like mar3oob by the way)
The waiting went for well over 30 minutes because there simply was no Chesterfield taxi available. There was also a gap between every taxi and the other that stretched, sometimes, for an unnecessary 5 minutes. It was hectic waiting with all the hot weather and humidity, and it was even more hectic having to keep an eye on the brainless people who were all competing for ‘Man with least brain cells’ award.
When we finally were 2nd in line for a taxi, a taxi driver came along and decided to skip us all and go for the last person inline. The whole line was now looking at that last person inline, all in an attack mode. That person looked around, feeling like he was about to do something wrong, then looked at us. He stopped in his place once he noticed our blazing gazes. The taxi driver then motioned him over while yelling ‘yalla!!.’ That person then decided to lift his bags and head towards the taxi. I couldn’t contain myself and yelled at them both. I yelled first at the guy with the bags, which made him re-plant his bags on the ground, and look at me with bewildered eyes. “wenta ma9adagt nadaak chan tarketh! Mako door o naas 9aafa gablik?!” I said. He said some words that were carefully chosen to sound as innocent as possible. I ignored him and his lame excuse and yelled at the driver to pull back from the end of the line to the front to pick the lady who is rightfully the first in line. The English speaking lady thanked me and my friend and took that taxi.
Our turn finally came. Our long awaited savior had arrived. But our savior was old and sleepy. He also wanted to know where we’re heading before we could put our bags in the trunk. Mar3oob was still there, infront of the line waving for taxis and asking us “entaw lail7een hnee?” The shock came when my friend and I were about to get in the taxi. The driver was asking other people in line if “anyone else was going to Mishref, or some area close to Mishref.” The car wasn’t a van or a big car, it was an old crown victoria. Why the hell was he asking other people to join in!? I, again, yelled, and refused to share the car with anyone else. But the taxi driver turned to me and with the nicest way possible he plead “Laish ya weldy.. khalna entarazag Allah… Afa 3alaik bs.. lik 3alay awa9elkom awal nas… afa 3alaik..etc.” I knew I couldn’t argue with the old driver, he was nice and looked too old to have me refuse his plea. I couldn’t help but shrug this whole situation off and surrender. I went to the car, got in, and waited next to my friend. A couple of seconds later the driver was helping another guy put his bags in the trunk.
10 minutes later we were home. 20 minutes later I was asleep. And then 2 hours later I was getting ready for work.
I remember that I almost drowned once, back in 1990, and I was ‘saved’ by my brother, who later amused everybody by throwing jokes at my expense. I remember that I didn’t yell or scream for help, I just kept flaling my hands in the air as I swallowed more and more water and gasped for air, if you were there and saw me you’d see a kid splashing water and looking up at the sky, you wouldn’t really be alarmed if you were 10 meters away.
That memory was brought about when I read the aricle below. It’s about drowning people, and how they don’t look like they’re drowning. This article must be read, you could save a life one day.
Article:
“The new captain jumped from the cockpit, fully dressed, and sprinted through the water. A former lifeguard, he kept his eyes on his victim as he headed straight for the owners who were swimming between their anchored sportfisher and the beach. “I think he thinks you’re drowning,” the husband said to his wife. They had been splashing each other and she had screamed but now they were just standing, neck-deep on the sand bar. “We’re fine, what is he doing?” she asked, a little annoyed. “We’re fine!” the husband yelled, waving him off, but his captain kept swimming hard. ”Move!” he barked as he sprinted between the stunned owners. Directly behind them, not ten feet away, their nine-year-old daughter was drowning. Safely above the surface in the arms of the captain, she burst into tears, “Daddy!” Read the rest of the article
Astronomer Dr. Saleh Al Ojairy said that the current heat wave is mainly due to the dust settling down and a clear sky. It is expected to last for the rest of this week, but the tempreture will return back to normal by the begining of next week.
He also said that whoever says the tempretures are going to rise up to 60 and 70 degrees (BBM rumors) are inaccurate, as these tempretures are only reached in some parts of Saudi Arabia due to direct sun exposure.
This is one of the most horrific things I’ve seen. The earth suddenly just dropped and swallowed a whole 3 story clothing factory and a house.
“A sinkhole is a natural depression caused by the removal of underground soil by water. Usually, it happens when the substrate is formed by limestone, carbonate rock, salt beds or any other rock that is easily eroded by water streams. The process could be slow, but sometimes the land just cracks open without notice. In this case, it happened suddenly, swallowing an entire house. The cause: Massive underground water torrents created by tropical storm Agatha.”
Remember a couple of weeks ago I wrote a post asking you about a translated Qur’an? well all the comments were helpful and I went directly to Jareer and purchased five English Qur’ans and they are on their way to the people who asked me in Aberdeen. Thank you guys.
We won’t be suffering from traffic jams in the mornings for a good 3 months! No more ‘get out of the house an hour before work to dodge traffic’ until the 19th of september when schools start again. Till then, I’m gonna use that snooze button like crazy.
Turinah is an Indonesian woman who claims to be 157 years old. She’s from a small village in Sumatra and despite being so old, has no problems with her sight, hearing nor memory, and she speaks fluent dutch.
She has no official papers to prove her age, but going by her adopted daughter’s age, which is 108, there is a good chance she might be telling the truth about her own age. Which could mean she broke the age record that was set by Jeanne Calment who died in 1997 at the age of 122.
Along with the little fireplace we built in the chalet we built an outdoor oven for our baking needs. The oven is a little one and wouldn’t fit large stuff as the oven opening is a little small. But hey we managed..
Once it was done, my cousin brought all the stuff needed to bake: Pizzas, Cheese Fateyer and Za3tar. The outcome was really good for first timers! The only problem I think (putting aside the so so pizza sauce and cheese) was the dough, it was perfect for little baked stuff, but not for the big ones (ya3ny 6a3amha kan mal mo3ajanat z’3ar shi’3il bait) that little thing should be solved as we continue our trials Look at the all the pictures
My friend baked us some of these ready made Chocolate chip cookie-dough over the weekend and they were just amazing. The taste is just right and it was extremely easy to make. He baked 2 batches, a regular sized batch and a generous sized batch. The latter was a killer.
I was just coming out of Tilal in Shuwaikh when I cam across the bed boutique. I wanted to buy some more of their Tampur pillows (I’m in love with it every since the first try), so when I saw them plastering ‘30% Off’ signs across their windows I knew I had to go in.
I went in and they told me that all of their products are on sale, even the accessories, everything is off by 30% so I bought the 2 pillows you see billow. The one on the right is my second one of the same kind, I bought one back in february, but one wasn’t enough. The pillow on the left is one I’ve been eyeing on the net for a long time, I’m gonna use it tonight.
I don’t know what you guys are using but these Tempur pillows are amazing!
I bought the MultiPillow (left) is for KD26, and the Symphony pillow (right) is for KD31. Also, purchased a new TV Bed Store mattress for my bed toimprove my sleep.
The Bed Boutique is in Tilal complex, Shuwaikh. Phone # 22256172
I did. An ants farm. I bought one. I was intrigued and disgusted by those little insects farms for a long time, and then decided that being intrigued and disgusted by them up close would be a better idea.

I just saw them today on my way back from work as I passed by Fahad AlSalem Street in Kuwait City. I like the new street lights, I don’t know how long they’ve been there, but I’m guessing they’re new, are they? Anway I hope they get them in every corner. They look much better than the current ones spread throughout the city. Good Job whoever decided that it is time to change the old ones.
Faihan Al Arbeed Famous for his roles in الأقدار and إلى أبي وأمي مع التحية has passed away the day before yesterday. May he rest in peace. Allah yer7omah.
I loved him in إلى أبي وأمي مع التحية in both part 1 and part 2 as Bo Adnan the baqala owner. He was so real in that part and his acting was effortless.
